TROT’S EFFORTS AND SUCCESS RECOGNIZED WITH MAJOR GRANTS

Thoroughbred Retirement of Tampa (TROT) has received grants from a pair of major Thoroughbred retirement charity organizations for its efforts and success in rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting out horses after their careers on the racetrack

TROT was approved for a grant of $5,700 from Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) and another of $2,850 from Blue Horse Charities (BHC), which was formed in 2001 by the Fasig-Tipton Sales Company. Lexington, Ky.-based TCA is the managing agent for BHC.

In approving the grants, officials determined TROT adheres to TCA’s mission, which is “To provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers by supporting retirement, rescue and research and by helping the people who work with them.”

TCA was created in 1997, as an outgrowth of the annual Stallion Season Auction, to aid other non-profit groups such as TROT to care for ex-race horses and their handlers and caretakers. In addition to rescue, re-training and adoption, TCA funds education and backstretch programs; equine research; and therapeutic riding programs. TCA is the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association.

In a statement, TCA Executive Director Erin Crady said both organizations “appreciate and applaud the work of TROT” and its efforts on behalf of Thoroughbreds and the people who work with them.

TROT, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to the safe retirement, rehabilitation and adoption of Tampa’s racing Thoroughbreds, operates under the premise that every Thoroughbred deserves a second chance with a loving and forever home.

In 2011, TROT placed 19 retired Thoroughbreds into new homes. TROT’s success stories are numerous and horses are available for adoption or in the process of transitioning at TROT’s foster facility in Myakka City.
