Unbridled Belle romps in Obeah Stakes
WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, June 20 - Team Valor International's Unbridled Belle clearly stamped herself as one of the favorites for the Delaware Handicap with an easy victory in the $125,000 Grade III Obeah Stakes at Delaware Park today. The Obeah Stakes is the local prep for the $1 million Grade II Delaware Handicap to be run on July 19.
With Richard Migliore aboard, the 6-year-old daughter of Broken Vow won by 11-lengths and covered the mile and an eighth in 1:50.79 over a sloppy sealed track. The Kentucky-bred trained by Todd Pletcher returned $6.20 as the favorite in the field of seven. In 2007, she won the Delaware Handicap by 7 ¾-lengths. The following year, she won the Obeah Stakes before finishing third in the Delaware Handicap. Her Delaware Park record is five wins, a second, and a third from seven outings.
The Peruvian invader Morena, with Anna Napravnik, finished second. It was another 2 ½-lengths back to the 9-to-5 favorite Skylighter, with Mike Smith.
Unbridled Belle raised her career record to seven wins from 20 starts with career earnings of $1,595,662.
"She made it very easy," said winning rider Richard Migliore. "She broke in good order and she got comfortable quick. It really came to easy her. After the first quarter mile, I felt very confident. She really did it well."
Bon Jovi Girl scores big victory in Susan's Girl Stakes
WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, June 20 - Blaze of Glory Stable's and Tim Ritchey's Bon Jovi Girl notched an impressive score in the $125,000 Susan's Girl Stakes (includes $50,000 Breeders' Cup Fund) at Delaware Park today. The Susan's Girl Stakes is the local prep for the mile and a sixteenth $250,000 Grade II Delaware Oaks to be run on July 18.
With Jose Caraballo aboard, the daughter of Malibu Moon won by 8-lengths and covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:44.27 over a sloppy sealed track. The Kentucky-bred trained by Tim Ritchey returned $5.40 as the second choice in the field of seven.
The 6-to-5 favorite, Payton d'Oro with Terry Thompson, finished second and it was another 12 ¾-lengths back to Warrior Maid, with Gabriel Saez, in third.
Bon Jovi Girl increased her lifetime time record to five wins from 11 starts with earnings of $316,920. Her Delaware Park record is four wins, a second and a third from six starts.
