Uncaptured sails to Swynford score

TORONTO, September 9 – Uncaptured maintained his undefeated status with a scintillating effort in Sunday’s $168,900 Swynford Stakes, at Woodbine.

The dark bay son of Lion Heart-Captivating, trained by Mark Casse for owner John C. Oxley, entered the Swynford off a trio of winning runs, including scores in the Clarendon and Vandal Stakes.

Patrick Husbands settled Uncaptured, the 1-5 mutuel favourite, off the pace of the front-running Five Iron and Dan the Tin Man, who set splits of :22.74 and :45.25 in the seven furlong main-track event, then swooped to the lead through the turn en route a 3 3/4-length win.

Five Iron held on for place, a length and a half in front of Dan the Tin Man. Uncaptured stopped the teletimer in 1:22.49.

Husbands was pleased with the young colt's effort in his first attempt at an extended sprint.

"He was going seven-eighths for the first time and he left (the starting gate) aggressive and by the time he came out of the chute he relaxed," said Husbands. "He's just a little class horse."

Assistant trainer Kathryn Sullivan was taken by the maturity of Uncaptured, considered a top contender for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, in winning his fourth race.

"He's been just incredible and Patrick handles him so well," said Sullivan. "He's so professional in the paddock. Nothing seems to bother him and so far, as you say, he's just been perfect. Sometimes, they're their own worst enemies, they get upset, and take their race before they even hit the track and that's certainly not him. He's a nice horse and he's done everything right."

Uncaptured banked $113,400 in victory.

He paid $2.40, combining with Five Iron for a $5.40 exactor. There was no place, show or triactor wagering. Brilliant Comet was scratched.
