‘Urga’ Races to Victory in Wait a While

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Race to Urga captured her third-straight victory at Gulfstream Park Sunday while capturing her stakes debut in the $70,000 Wait A While on closing day of the 2011-2012 meeting.

The Christophe Clement-trained 4-year-old filly, who had captured an allowance race before starting her Gulfstream streak, had a perfect trip under jockey Jose Lezcano in the 1 1/16-mile turf stakes.

Positioned on the rail just off the pace, the 2-1 favorite was set down for the drive after Lezcano found room between pacesetting Frontside and stalking In the Rough at the top of the pace. The daughter of Bernstein took over from there to score by three lengths.

“This filly just has so much class. I think she’s going to be a very good one,” Lezcano said. “We had a perfect trip today sitting just off the pace and when I asked her, she really took off.”

Race to Urga ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:40.55 to capture her fifth win in eight starts for Castleton Lyons. Frontside, a 13-1 shot ridden by Joe Bravo, held second, 2 ¼ lengths ahead of late-closing Distorted Legacy and jockey Rajiv Maragh.

Race to Urga earned her start in the Wait A While by winning allowance races on Jan. 15 and March 10.

“She’s done very well here in Florida all winter and she obviously loves the course,” assistant trainer Christophe Lorieul said. “She was ready for the step up today. She’ll go to New York from here.”
