Weanling Colt by Indian Charlie Tops Wednesday Session at Keeneland

Lexington, KY (November 12, 2008) – The weanling market remained strong at Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale, where colts by Indian Charlie and Tapit accounted for the highest prices on Wednesday.

Shannon Run Stables paid the day’s top price of $110,000 for the Indian Charlie colt from the consignment of Eaton Sales, agent. Out of Willa Time, by Gilded Time, the colt is from the family of Travers Stakes (G1) winner Will’s Way and Ashland Stakes (G1) winner Willa On the Move.

A colt by Tapit out of the stakes-placed Wolf Power (SAf) mare Miss Pine Top Az. was purchased for $77,000 by Whitechurch. The colt was consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent for Highland Oaks Farm.

The session’s third-highest price of $65,000 was paid by Tom Gentry, agent, for a filly by Congaree out of Irish graded stakes winner St Clair Ridge (IRE), by Indian Ridge. She was consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.

Gross receipts on Wednesday totaled $2,580,500, down 59 percent from the $6,295,500 posted last year. The session average of $14,497 decreased 38.7 percent from $23,667 recorded in 2007, while the median of $12,000 was down 31.4 percent from last year’s $17,500. A total of 178 horses were sold this year compared to 266 in 2007.

After 10 days, 1,999 horses have been sold for $175,875,300, down 46.4 percent from last year’s $328,069,900 when 2,407 horses were sold. Average was down 35.4 percent from $136,298 to $87,982. The median of $38,000 was down 30.9 percent from last year’s $55,000.

Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale continues through Monday, November 17. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. daily.
