Wild About Sonny Captures Gulfstream Feature

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Wild About Sonny returned from a seven-month layoff to score a half-length victory in Thursday’s featured eighth race at Gulfstream Park.

The 2-1 favorite, who previously had won her debut to racing at Monmouth Park on June 19, stalked the early pace set by Because I Like It before edging away to victory in the $42,700 allowance race. Ridden by Elvis Trujillo, Wild About Sonny ran six furlongs in 1:11 4/5 to prevail over eight sophomore fillies.

Because I Like It, ridden by Juan Leyva, held second money, 2-1/4 lengths ahead of Cofachiqui and jockey Paco Lopez.

Trained by Kelly Breen, Wild About Sonny ($6.40) earned $24,300 for her second victory in as many starts for owners George and Lori Hall.

Rainbow 6 Carryover

There were no tickets sold with all six winners of the Rainbow 6 Thursday, resulting in a carryover of $37,752 for Friday’s program. Tickets with five of six winners paid $521.23.

The 50-cent Pick-5 was solved Thursday, resulting in a $37,499.95 payoff.
