WILD RAINBOW PREVAILS IN FRIDAY FEATURE
Oceanport, N.J. – New Farm’s Wild Rainbow prevailed after a long duel in the stretch to win the $42,000 allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon by a neck.
Trained by Ben Perkins Jr., Wild Rainbow covered the five furlongs over a good turf course in :56 1/5 and returned $9.80, $5.60 and $4.80 as a 7-2 choice in the field of eight fillies and mares. Natalie’s Goal was second best, completing the $83.40 exacta and paying $8 to place and $4.80 to show. It was another 2 ½ lengths back to No Splits, who paid $7.60 to show.
Friday’s win was the seventh in 22 career starts for Wild Rainbow, a 5-year-old daughter of Wildcat Heir and the Prospector’s Gamble mare Rainbow Pride.
Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, July 28 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:45 p.m. Highlighting the weekend of racing is the $1 million Haskell Invitational, the signature event of Monmouth’s summer season, which will be contested for the 45th time on Sunday.
