YACHT SPOTTER, IN MY GLORY SCORE FRONT-RUNNING UPSETS
ALBANY -- Yacht Spotter and In My Glory both used front-running tactics to score upsets in the co-feature races at Golden Gate Fields Friday.
Yacht Spotter defeated Grade 1 stakes-winners Artiste Royal and Matto Mondo in the third race, a 1 1/16-mile allowance test on the turf for 3-year-olds and up. Ridden by Alex Bisono, Yacht Spotter held off 3-to-5 favorite Artiste Royal down the stretch to score by 1 1/4 lengths while Matto Mondo checked in another length back in third.
Yacht Spotter, the second choice in the wagering at 4-to-1, paid $10.60 after recording his third straight victory on the Golden Gate Fields lawn. Trained by Frank Lucarelli and owned by Ivor Jones, Yacht Spotter earned $23,400 for his eighth win in 23 career starts.
In My Glory fought off 3-to-2 favorite Victorina down the lane to win the seventh race, a one-mile turf test for fillies and mares, by 1 1/4 lengths. Ridden by Luis Martinez, In My Glory won the allowance contest in 1:36.82 and paid $8.60.
Victorina is a multiple stakes-winner who was coming off a victory in the Marina Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Oct. 26.
In My Glory, a 4-year-old filly trained by Efrain Miranda and owned by Charles Lo, banked $23,400 after recording her fourth victory in 18 career starts.
The $75,000 Sausalito Stakes, a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up, highlights Saturday's nine-race program. Trainer Greg Gilchrist has entered his talented 3-year-old fillies Indyanne and High Resolve in against six male rivals in the Sausalito, which will be run on the Tapeta racing surface.
Indyanne has five wins (three in stakes) and a second in six career starts. High Resolve has six victories (four in stakes), a second and a third in eight lifetime outings. Both fillies race for the Estate of Harry J. Aleo.
Post time Saturday is 12:45 p.m. and Golden Gate Fields is hosting a canned food drive. Fans bringing a canned foot item to the track will receive a Club House pass.
