ZENYATTA CONTINUES TO READY FOR LADY’S SECRET STAKES
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 18, 2010)—Continuing her preparation for the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes, presented by TVG, on Oct. 2, Zenyatta worked six furlongs in 1:13 4/5 Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Undefeated in 18 starts for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs, the 6-year-old Street Cry mare will be looking for her third consecutive victory in the Lady’s Secret. The race at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track is one of six Grade 1’s that will be run during the first weekend of the Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meet.
The two Grade 1’s on Oct. 3 are the $250,000 Oak Leaf Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track and the $250,000 Clement L. Hirsch Turf Championship, presented by TVG,for older horses at 1 ¼ miles on turf.
In her Saturday drill, Zenyatta, who has been stabled at Hollywood Park throughout her career, worked with stablemate El Vino.
The winner of an unprecedented third consecutive Vanity Handicap in her most recent start at Hollywood Park on June 13, Zenyatta, according to Hollywood Park clocker Russ Hudak, was timed in 25 1/5 seconds for her opening quarter mile. She drilled three furlongs in 37 2/5, a half mile in 49 3/5 and completed her final two furlongs in 24 1/5 en route to the final clocking. Hudak said Zenyatta galloped out seven furlongs in 1:27 3/5.
