John’s Call Quotes

Chad Brown, winning trainer of Hyper (No. 2): "We took a shot. It's a very odd race; a mile and five-eighths. There aren't many of them over here. This was uncharted territory for him. It seems he was finishing his races well. He trains like a horse who has some stamina. More importantly, he likes firm ground. When we had an opportunity to run on a firm turf course today, you take what you can get. In a race this far, for him to come home that well, that's pretty good. I'm sure there is a graded stakes race with his name on it. It seems he's gotten better as he's gotten older."

Javier Castellano, winning rider aboard Hyper (No. 2): "It was a great trip that I had. Perfect trip, dream trip. I stalked on the inside. We had three turns. The first two turns I saved a lot of ground, and that's exactly what Chad Brown told me to do. He said, 'The first two turns stay on the rail and the last turn you decide, use your own judgment.' That's exactly what I did. It worked out perfect; beautiful trip."

Whitney Invitational Handicap (G1) Draw Quotes

Ian Wilkes, trainer of defending Whitney champion Fort Larned (No. 3, 7-5 morning-line odds): “That’s why I’ve got [jockey] Brian [Hernandez, Jr.]. He’s tactical; he can sit behind. Don’t forget Mucho Macho Man is a fast horse, as well. All three speed horses drew on the inside here. It’ll be up to Brian. He can sit; that’s not a problem.

Schuylerville (G3) Quotes

Steve Asmussen, winning trainer (DH) of Brazen Persuasion (No. 4): “She broke sharp, was away real cleanly. The entry tackled her immediately. Coming into the stretch, I thought she got a little separation, and then you saw the other filly coming, but they fought really well to the wire.”

NEW YORK WATCH: NOBLE TUNE

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer Chad Brown initially thought Noble Tune was destined for the dirt before the colt posted a pair of “exceptional” breezes on the Oklahoma turf course, and on Labor Day at Saratoga Race Course the great-grandson of Serena’s Song made it clear that he prefers the grass by unleashing a strong turn of foot to take his debut by 3 ½-lengths.

Noble Tune raced behind cover in sixth along the inside before ranging up between horses on the final turn, finding a wide opening turning for home when the pacesetter drifted outwards, and blowing away his opponents once set down by Ramon Dominguez.
