Toni Tools goes against state breds again in Sunday’s Franklin Square


Rice enters formidable pair for Broadway

OZONE PARK, N.Y.
- Toni Tools will look to continue her success in stakes races in headlining a 10-horse field in the third running of the $100,000 Franklin Square for New York-bred 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs on the inner dirt track on Sunday at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Toni Tools has posted a win and a second-place finish in her last two stakes against state-breds, registering a half-length victory in NYSS Fifth Avenue on December 18 before finishing one length behind Dublin Girl in a runner-up performance in the Maddie May last out on January 29 at the Big A.

Withers continues proud tradition on Saturday


OZONE PARK, N.Y. - The Withers Stakes has a long history as an important race for 3-year-olds with Triple Crown aspirations.
It was first contested in 1874, when a horse named Dublin was victorious, and a year later it was captured by Aristides, the horse who won the very first Kentucky Derby.

In 1919, Sir Barton, the first Triple Crown winner, took the Withers and the following year it became one of the 20 wins in 21 starts by the immortal Man o' War. Yet these days there's a different type of link between the Kentucky Derby and the Withers.

Takrees seeks first stakes win in Sunday’s Interborough

Green Gratto fends off late charge to win G3 Toboggan


OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Green Gratto surged to the early lead from the inside post, set the pace and outkicked a charging All Star Red in deep stretch to capture the 124th running of the Grade 3, $125,000 Toboggan for 4-year-olds and up on the inner dirt track Monday at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Owned by Gaston Grant, his trainer, and Anthony Grant, Green Gratto recorded his first win in six starts, wiring the field after setting fast early fractions of 22.60 seconds for a quarter-mile and 45.34 for the half.

NYRA to offer $1 million bonus to Japan-based winner of 2017 Belmont Stakes


OZONE PARK, N.Y. - The New York Racing Association has announced a $1 million bonus to any Japan-based thoroughbred who competes in and wins the 149th running of the Grade 1, $1.5 million Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 10 at Belmont Park, the last and longest leg of racing's Triple Crown.

The entire $1 million bonus would be awarded to the winning horse's connections in addition to the $800,000 winner's share of the purse for the 1 ½-mile "Test of the Champion." In the event of a dead-heat for the win, the bonus will be $600,000.

Damon Runyon, East View on tap as live racing returns to Aqueduct


OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Live thoroughbred action will return to Aqueduct Racetrack Thursday, December 29 for a five-day race week over the New Year's holiday weekend. Along with a Pick 6 carryover of $30,987 beginning in Race 4, Thursday's card will be highlighted by a field of nine in the 38th running of the $100,000 Damon Runyon for New York-bred juveniles at a mile and 70 yards.
