Thunder Rumble (NYSS) Quotes

Mike Hushion, winning trainer of Loki's Vengeance (No. 2): "He's consistent in the mornings. He keeps himself looking like a million dollars. Everybody always says, 'boy, you've got him looking good today,' but he always looks good. A lot of good horses stay like that, tough horses."

Cigar Mile (G1) Quotes

Christophe Clement, winning trainer of Tonalist (No. 5) and runner-up Red Vine (No. 3): "I'm always a little bit worried when I run him. The race was run in a funny way; they went so slow early on, which I didn't think was great for us. But that's what good horses do - they win and they overcome things. Great ride by Johnny [Velazquez]. I'm a very lucky man. They both ran very well. Joel [Rosario] came back and said he was very unlucky [on Red Vine]. The fun thing for me, as a trainer, was having the two best horses in the race. I'll have to talk with Mr. [Robert Evans about next year], but no matter what, they're both going to have a break."

Comely (G3) Quotes

Dallas Stewart, winning trainer of Forever Unbridled (No. 9) (By telephone): "She has been a solid horse all year; ran second and third to I'm a Chatterbox a few times. We gave her a break after the [Kentucky] Oaks and she'd been training great. She came up there ready to run. There are a lot of Grade 1's next year and at Saratoga and I think she's capable if we handle it right."

Remsen (G2) Quotes

Kiaran McLaughlin, winning trainer of Mohaymen (No. 3): "He's a very nice horse. Junior rode him great, he did everything right and it's a big win for the team. He did trickle [blood] a tiny bit last time, so we actually wait right up until they require Lasix to use it and today it worked out great. We also schooled him a lot at the gate after the way he acted last time. It was so unlike him, he had never shown anything like that at the gate when he reared up in there, so we did school him a bit coming up to this race and it worked out well. I was a little anxious when they were turning for home but it's great to win for Shadwell and I trained [Mohaymen's dam] Justwhistledixie, so it's special to have this horse be this good."

Demoiselle (G2) Quotes

Chad Brown, winning trainer of Lewis Bay (No. 2): "Irad [Ortiz, Jr.] rode her really well. I was concerned on the backside, when they were stacked up outside her, that she would never get out. Irad explained to me afterward he just eased his way back and around everyone. He was forced to go wider than he wanted to, but she really finished good. The last sixteenth of a mile, she lost her competition [by] being in front and out in the center of the track. He said she really lost focus, but was just being green. He said she's better with a target, but she passed the two-turn test, at least."

Go For Wand Handicap Quotes (G3)

Carlos Santamaria, assistant to winning trainer Simon Callaghan of Taris (No. 4): "It was a pretty good trip, she deserved this kind of trip after the last two races she had, but she was ready today. A good win for her, she deserved it."

Simon Callaghan winning trainer of Taris (No. 4): via telephone: "She got a perfect trip. She did it very well. It was a nice race with a solid field and we're glad she performed today. Gary [Stevens] was dehydrated and we ended up with Joel who's also a terrific rider and I was pleased with his performance. There's a race in February at Santa Anita where she's likely to enter next but nothing's set in stone."

King’s Swan quotes

Michael Dilger, winning trainer of Jan's Reserve (No. 2): "At the time, we thought he was training a little better on the turf, he was handling it better, so that's why we switched him over [to the turf]. Since he won his race, he's been training at Belmont and he's been handling the dirt so well, we decided to hang around and wait for this race."

"We were really happy [with the quick early pace]. That was the ideal scenario for us. Joel just made the comment that he might [go further], but there's a lot of opportunities for one-turn horses so we'll see what happens."

Fall Highweight Quotes (G3)

Gatson Grant, winning trainer of Green Gratto (No. 5): "It's hard work and very emotional. I had this horse since he was a yearling, bought him and he just kept trying. I knew all along he was the kind of horse to win a graded stakes race because he always showed it in the mornings. It was just a matter of putting it together in the afternoon. He's just one tough guy and there's no quit in him. I really can't say much about it other than to Thank God for this opportunity."
"I wasn't concerned with the week layoff because when he came back the next day it looked like he didn't lift a hoof. He was acting good and we put him on the track and he was training awesome. He came back from last time like he didn't even break a sweat so we figured we'd give him a shot in here. We were trying to go to the Cigar Mile until we heard Private Zone was entered but we knew at three-quarters this horse was really tough. We're going to give him a breather; he's been racing all year. He deserves it. He's the one that tells us where we're going with him."

Kendrick Carmouche, winning rider aboard Green Gratto (No. 5): "Last time I rode the horse, I kept him together pretty good and let him go nice and easy, but it didn't work out. This time, I told the trainer, 'I'll just let him roll. That's the only way we're going to win.' And that's the way we won. He ran a good race. Hats off to the trainer, he did it all. I was just a good pilot."

Furlough quotes

Toby Sheets, assistant to winning trainer Steve Asmussen of Constellation (No. 5): "Drawing the outside post helped us out a little bit being able to see how things would play out but she's a really nice filly. I don't think it would've mattered today where we drew. Irad said she settled nicely today, she was a little keen her last race back at Belmont but she did everything great and professionally."

Irad Ortiz, Jr., winning rider aboard Constellation (No. 5): "She's a very nice filly. She made it look easy today. She always tries hard and the trainer [Steve Asmussen] and his assistant, Toby Sheets, did a great job with the filly. She came ready today; she was 100 percent and was much the best."
