Damon Runyon, East View on tap as live racing returns to Aqueduct

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Live thoroughbred action will return to Aqueduct Racetrack Thursday, December 29 for a five-day race week over the New Year's holiday weekend. Along with a Pick 6 carryover of $30,987 beginning in Race 4, Thursday's card will be highlighted by a field of nine in the 38th running of the $100,000 Damon Runyon for New York-bred juveniles at a mile and 70 yards.

Bar of Gold looks to strike it rich in G3 Go for Wand

Lewis Bay tops G2 Gazelle at Big A

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Lewis Bay, one of two hopefuls in the field from the barn of trainer Chad Brown, looks for her second graded stakes victory at Aqueduct Racetrack on Saturday when she takes on six other promising 3-year-old fillies in the 121st running of the Grade 2, $300,000 Gazelle Stakes.

The Gazelle is also a significant stop on the road to the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks with 170 total qualifying points at stake (100 for first, 40 for second, 20 for third and 10 for fourth), and Lewis Bay, currently sitting in 12th place on the leader board with 30 points, has the opportunity to solidify one of 14 spots in the Oaks starting gate May 6.

Shagaf favored in G1 Wood Memorial

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Shadwell Stable's undefeated Gotham winner Shagaf has been tabbed as the 2-1 morning-line favorite over seven rivals in the 92nd edition of the Grade 1, $1 million Wood Memorial for 3-year-olds on Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack.

As part of the official Road to the Kentucky Derby prep series, the 1 1/8-mile Wood is the final stop in New York en route to the "Run for the Roses," worth 100 qualifying points to the winner, 40 points to second, 20 to third and 10 to fourth - virtually guaranteeing the top two finishers spots in the starting gate in the Grade 1, $2 million Kentucky Derby May 7 at Churchill Downs.

Shagaf punches Derby ticket in Gotham; Mei Ling steals Heavenly Prize

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Shadwell Stable's highly regarded homebred Shagaf lived up to his lofty expectations to take the 64th running of the Grade 3, $400,000 Gotham by 1 ¼ lengths Saturday afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack, earning 50 points to virtually lock down a spot in the Kentucky Derby on May 7.

Breaking from the inside post on a track that had favored inside speed through much of the day, Laoban hustled to the front of the seven-horse field, setting fractions of 23.33 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 47.16 for the half. Shagaf, ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr., was joined in the middle of the pack by Rally Cry and Sunny Ridge as the trio filed in behind the leader, who swept through.
