– There was no unique winner of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 on Friday, leaving a jackpot carryover of $508,090.75 for Saturday’s stakes-filled 13-race program, highlighted by the 58th running of the $500,000 Donn Handicap (G1).

Since it was last hit for $76,799.38 by one lucky bettor on Jan. 13, the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for 17 consecutive programs. The largest payout of the current Championship Meet was $262,634.84 on Jan. 7.

Sheriffa, Threehailmary’s square off again in Biogio’s Rose


OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Multiple stakes winners Sheriffa and Saythreehailmary's face each other for the first time in 2016 on Sunday at Aqueduct Racetrack as they head a field of six New York-bred fillies and mares in the $100,000 Biogio's Rose at 1 1/16 miles.

Saythreehailmary's, trained by John Morrison for the Very Un Stable, enters the Biogio's Rose off consecutive stakes victories, having closed out her 4-year-old campaign with a 1 ¼-length win over Sheriffa in the Bay Ridge and opened this year with a solid open company triumph in the Ladies on January 10, in which she carried 115 pounds.

‘PERFECTION’ GIVES BROWN FIFTH STRAIGHT SWEETEST CHANT SCORE


HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Pricedtoperfection ($11.40) was ridden to perfection by jockey Joel Rosario in the $100,000 Sweetest Chant Stakes (G3) to give trainer Chad Brown his fifth straight win in the one-mile turf test for 3-year-old fillies.

Owned by Klaravich Stables and William H. Lawrence, the bay filly came into the Sweetest Chant off a fast-finishing second in the Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream Park on January 2, and tucked into a ground-saving spot in midfield as longshots Go Ro Ro Go and Born to Be Winner disputed the lead.

Sassicaia splits rivals to take G3 Toboggan


OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Robert V. LaPenta's Sassicaia may have been a late entrant in the Grade 3, $150,000 Toboggan, twice rescheduled due to inclement weather, but his timing quickly proved to be impeccable, springing a mild upset to score his first graded stakes victory on Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack.

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – On the way to an unprecedented 12th consecutive Championship Meet training title, Todd Pletcher won 15 stakes last winter at Gulfstream Park including its signature race, the $1 million Florida Derby (G1), for a second consecutive year.

Ranking just as high on Pletcher’s list was Unitarian’s victory in the $100,000 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes, created by Gulfstream to honor the legendary Hall of Fame horseman and run for the first time less than seven weeks before his death last March at the age of 85.

Familiar New York faces among Eclipse Award winners for racing excellence


HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Led by jockey Javier Castellano, older male Honor Code and female sprinter La Verdad, several familiar faces from the New York Racing Association's circuit received horse racing's highest honors at the 45th annual Eclipse Awards on Saturday evening at Gulfstream Park.

Castellano received his third straight Eclipse as the nation's top jockey, having broken his own earnings record with $28,120,767 in 2015, as well as leading the nation with 344 victories. Castellano, 38, rode 17 Grade 1 winners last year, including Honor Code in the Metropolitan Handicap and Whitney Stakes, Twilight Eclipse in the Man o' War and most memorably, Keen Ice to a dramatic upset of Triple Crown champion and Horse of the Year American Pharoah in the Travers at Saratoga Race Course. It was Castellano's fifth Travers victory, the most by a jockey in the race's 146-year history.

He’s got a lot of try and even when he doesn’t win, it’s not because he didn’t try. He’s a horse that’s a two-turn horse. He’s always going to be running best at the end of the races. We’re delighted.
