Filly & Mare Turf Notes


Alterite – Martin Schwartz’ French-bred filly Alterite jogged Tuesday morning at Santa Anita, the day after shipping from New York with nine other Breeders’ Cup horses trained by Chad Brown.

Schwartz imported Alterite this summer and turned her over to Brown following a sixth-place finish in the French Oaks on June 16. The Filly & Mare Turf was not part of the 2013 U.S. schedule for the filly, but was added after she won the Garden City at Belmont Park and finished second by a neck in the Queen Elizabeth II at Keeneland on Oct. 12.

$3 Million Breeders’ Cup Turf Notes


Indy Point – The Argentinian chestnut galloped Indy Point 1½m for trainer Richard Mandella Tuesday morning, just as the sun broke through Santa Anita. The 4yo had exercise rider David Nuesch up and his neck bowed as he began into his exercise.

“I’m very pleased with him now,” said Hall of Famer Mandella. “I was not happy with his race in Chicago (the Arlington Million in which he finished 13th and last as the favorite).”

Breeders’ Cup Classic
Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani’s Breeders’ Cup Classic contender Planteur stretched his legs for the first time on Santa Anita’s track early Tuesday morning with a canter around one and a half circuits of the dirt before returning to the barn. The Marco Botti trainee was accompanied by stable companion Al Thakhira (Juvenile Fillies Turf) with the trainer’s wife Lucie on board who said afterward, “everything was good this morning I just wanted them to have a look at their surroundings.”

Authenticity/Princess of Sylmar – Trainer Todd Pletcher was impressed with Princess of Sylmar’s first outing over the track at Santa Anita Tuesday morning. The 3yo daughter of Majestic Warrior arrived from Belmont Park Monday afternoon for an appearance in Friday’s $2 Million Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

Bright Thought – Trainer Jorge Gutierrez Tuesday explained why Bright Thought, a 4yo colt who set a world record for 1 1/2m on turf at Santa Anita in March, will be making his first start in more than seven months in the Breeders' Cup Mile against the likes of reigning Horse of the Year Wise Dan.

$5 Million Breeders’ Cup Classic Notes


Flat Out/Ron the Greek – Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott’s veterans went to the track Tuesday morning. Ron the Greek, winner of the Jockey Club Gold Cup, a Win and You’re In race on Sept. 28 at Belmont Park, jogged once around the track, while Flat Out, who was third in the Gold Cup, jogged.

In 2012, Flat Out finished third in the Classic, three-quarters of a length in front of Ron the Greek.

DANCE TO BRISTOL WORKS BULLET IN FINAL BREEDERS’ CUP DRILL


Bowie-Based Mare Expected To Be Among The Favorites In Filly & Mare Sprint

LAUREL, MD. 10-25-13---Dance to Bristol put in her final work at the Bowie Training Center Friday morning, eight days before the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) at Santa Anita Park. The Ollie Figgins III trainee stopped the clock in 58.60, the fastest drill of the morning at the 5-furlong distance. Regular rider Xavier Perez was aboard.
