PROMISING JUVENILE FILLIES REGROUP FOR SUNDAY FEATURE
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 20, 2012) – Seven juvenile fillies have signed up to contest the Sunday feature at Calder Casino & Race Course, with both Arindel Farm’s Vitameta and Amy Gleaves, Bruce Hollander, and Cary Shapoff’s I Ain’t Gonna Lie looking to bounce back from failed summer stakes attempts in the six-furlong entry-level allowance.
Trained by Dave Fawkes, Vitameta was unveiled to a seven-length victory on July 1 in a five-furlong dash where the daughter of Street Sense led at every call, toying with her rivals before drawing clear in mid-stretch. The filly was subsequently shipped to Saratoga for her next start, the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes, where she was forwardly-placed through the early stages of the race while chasing eventual winner Kauai Katie before stopping rather abruptly and galloping home the last of five.

SERPA SWEEPS STALLION STAKES TO SHINE AT FESTIVAL OF THE SUN
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 13, 2012) – While jockey Angel Serpa’s first ever appearance at Calder Casino & Race Course in April was far from memorable as the young rider walked away winless in two tries, his autumnal return proved far more prosperous as the Puerto Rican native captured both of the lucrative Florida Stallion Stakes offered as part of the 21st annual Festival of the Sun, taking the $300,000-estimated My Dear Girl Division aboard Frank C. Calabrese’s Verso a Verso before returning later in the day to win the $300,000-estimated In Reality Division with Ralph Nabavi’s Speak Logistics.

D’NIED PERMISSION LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK IN STALLION STAKES FINAL
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 12, 2012) – After his surprise victory in the $125,000 Affirmed Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes, trainer Joe Calascibetta entered D’nied Permission in the Foolish Pleasure Stakes with tempered expectations, knowing that his combatants that day, specifically Itsmyluckyday and Sr. Quisqueyano would be tough. What the veteran conditioner didn’t expect was for the son of D’Wildcat to drop his rider shortly after the post parade and run off, essentially costing the gelding any shot at success.
