(April 3, 2013) – Hardway Stables’ Speak Logistics, winner of the $300,000 In Reality Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes at Calder in 2012 and most recently third to subsequent Florida Derby winner Orb in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes, headlines a field of eight that will gather for the 41st running of the $250,000 Calder Derby, the 1 1/8-mile centerpiece event on opening day of the 2013 live racing season at Calder Casino & Race Course.

NINE INDUCTEES NAMED TO CALDER HALL OF FAME


MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 12, 2013) – Eclipse Award-winning sprinter and three-time Florida Stallion Stakes winner Big Drama, south Florida riding stalwart Eduardo Nunez, and top-five all-time Calder trainer Dan Hurtak were among the nine new members to the Calder Hall of Fame announced at the FTBOA Awards Gala in Ocala on March 11.

TWILIGHT ECLIPSE OUTSHINES RIVALS IN W. L. MCKNIGHT


MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 24, 2012) – In a race that was filled graded stakes winners and proven graded stakes competitors, it was West Point Thoroughbreds’ Twilight Eclipse, with just two career wins in five lifetime starts, that proved 1 ¾ lengths the best in the $150,000 Grade 2 W. L. McKnight Handicap at Calder Casino & Race Course on Saturday.

KYA ONE PROVES BEST IN GRADE 3 MY CHARMER


MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 22, 2012) – Mackie Racing’s Kya One, who could do no better than fifth when beaten four lengths by Naples Bay in the Grade 3 Noble Damsel Stakes at Belmont Park in September, exacted revenge on that rival when proving 1 ¼-length the best in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap at Calder Casino & Race Course on Thursday.

(November 21, 2012) – Nominations for a pair of closing day graded turf stakes at Calder Casino & Race Course have been released with 23 horses listed as potential starters for the Grade 3 Tropical Turf Handicap and 16 fillies and mares made eligible for a possible appearance in the Grade 3 La Prevoyante.

NAPLES BAY LEADS FIELD OF EIGHT DRAWN FOR GRADE 3 MY CHARMER


MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 18, 2012) – Edward A. Cox, Jr.’s Naples Bay, winner of the Grade 3 Noble Damsel at Belmont Park in mid-September, headlines a field of eight fillies and mares scheduled to start in the Grade 3 My Charmer Handicap, run at the distance of 1 1/8 miles on the Calder Casino & Race Course turf Thursday, Nov. 22.

Trained by Christophe Clement, who won the My Charmer in 1995 with Danish and in 2005 with Snowdrops, Naples Bay is a two-time winner in 2012, adding an allowance victory on the Monmouth Park grass course in August to her Noble Damsel triumph.

MY PAL CHRISY AND BAD DEBT SCORE REPEAT WINS ON FLORIDA MILLION DAY

(November 10, 2012) – Tony’s Investments, LLC’s My Pal Chrisy and Robert Leibner’s Bad Debt became the first horses since 2007 to successfully defended their Florida Million Day titles when prevailing in the $150,000 Elmer Heubeck Distaff and the $125,000 Bonnie Heath Turf Cup at Calder Casino & Race Course on Saturday.

BREEDERS’ CUP SPRINT HERO RETURNS HOME TO CALDER

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 8, 2012) – For the third straight year a Breeders’ Cup champion passed through the Calder Casino & Race Course stable gate just days after achieving the ultimate glory on American racing’s biggest stage as Sprint winner Trinniberg returned to his south Florida stall during the early morning hours on Wednesday.

“He was a little tired in the morning and slept until nine,” trainer Shivananda Parbhoo said of his prized colt. “But he bounced right back today and I can tell you that the same way he went into the race is the same way he has come out of it. He’s back to himself.”
