Delaware Handicap receives Grade I status


Wilmington, Del., November 30, 2012 — The Delaware Handicap, the filly and mare summer classic run as the signature race of the Delaware Park live racing season, has received Grade I status from the American Graded Stakes Committee for the first time since 1989. The American Graded Stakes Committee released the 2013 Graded Stakes today.

Wednesday card cancelled due to insufficient entries

Wilmington, Del., October 22, 2012 — Delaware Park’s live racing card for Wednesday, October 24, has been cancelled due to insufficient entries.

Live racing will be conducted today and is scheduled for Thursday, October 25. First race post time is 1:15 p.m.

The races that filled for the Wednesday card will be brought back as extra races for the Thursday and Saturday cards.

Stephanoatsee takes Barbaro Stakes


Wilmington, Del., October 20, 2012 — My Meadowview Farm’s Stephanoatsee won the Owners Day feature – the $100,000 Barbaro Stakes at Delaware Park today. With Sheldon Russell aboard, the 3-year-old son of A.P. Indy closed from last before posting a ¾-length victory as the 7-to-5 favorite in the field of seven. Adirondack King, with Jeremy Rose, finished second 1 ¼-lengths in front of Traffic Light, with John Bisono, in third.

Stephanoatsee covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:44.79 over a fast main track. The Barbaro Stakes was the first career stake victory for the Kentucky-bred conditioned by H. Graham Motion. His career record is three wins from seven starts with earnings of $198,000.

20th Anniversary of Owners Day highlighted
by 11 races including five stakes

Wilmington, Del., October 18, 2012 — Five stake races, including the $100,000 Barbaro Stakes and two Delaware Bred or Certified Stakes, highlight the Owners Day card at Delaware Park this Saturday. The “Platinum Celebration” of the 20th anniversary of Owners Day has attracted a total of 94 horses on the 11-race card with $508,000 in purses, including $370,000 in stake purses. Post time for the first race is 1:15 p.m.

Nicole H cruises to victory in the Endine Stakes


Wilmington, Del., October 13, 2012 — Nicole H cruised to victory in the $100,000 Endine Stakes at Delaware Park. With Daniel Centeno aboard, the 5-year-old daughter of Mr. Greeley posted a 1 ¼-length score and returned $3.80 as the favorite in the field of seven. The Kentucky-bred conditioned by Michael Hushion covered the six furlongs in 1:09.96 over a fast main track.

Nicole H could be peaking just in time for Endine Stakes

Wilmington, Del., October 11, 2012 —Nicole H has been winless in her last seven outings, but the classy daughter of Mr. Greeley may be peaking just in time for the $100,000 Endine Stakes at Delaware Park this Saturday. The six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares, named after the 1958 and 1959 Delaware Handicap winner, has attracted a field of nine.

Vegas No Show takes Dover Stakes by nose


Wilmington, Del., October 6, 2012 — George and Lori Hall’s Vegas No Show won the $75,000 Dover Stakes at Delaware Park today. With Ricardo Feliciano aboard, the 2-year-old son of Hard Spun outdueled Keep the Canoli, with Jose Ferrer, in the final furlong to post a nose victory. It was another 2 3/4-lengths further back to Outhaul, with Geovany Garcia, in third.

Micromanage tops Dover Stakes


Wilmington, Del., October 4, 2012 —Repole Stable’s Micromanage, an impressive winner in his recent career debut at Saratoga, tops the $75,000 Dover Stakes at Delaware Park this Saturday. The mile-and-70-yard event for 2-year-olds has attracted a field of ten. Four colts who have placed in the Dover Stakes have gone on to win the Kentucky Derby the following year. Count Turf won the Dover in 1950; Carry Back finished second in 1960; Foolish Pleasure won in 1974 and Spectacular Bid finished second in 1978.

In his only career outing, Micromanage posted a 5-length triumph in a seven-furlong maiden at Saratoga on September 1. The Kentucky-bred son of Medaglia d’Oro conditioned by Todd Pletcher is a half brother to the multiple graded winning filly Indescriable, who won the Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland in 2009, and Elaflaak, who won a 2-year-old stake in England in 1999.

Danalake tops Blue Hen Stakes


Wilmington, Del., September 27, 2012 —Sheldon Nitenson’s Danalake, a winner of her last two races, tops the $75,000 Blue Hen Stakes at Delaware Park this Saturday. Last year, locally-based Grace Hall used the mile-and-70-yard test for 2-year-old fillies as a prep for her second-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

In her most recent, Danalake posted a 3¾-length score in the one-mile $50,000 Our Mims Stakes at Delaware Park on August 22. Previously, the daughter of Friends Lake posted a two-length triumph to break her maiden going five furlongs at Delaware Park on July 4. The Kentucky-bred conditioned by Todd Pletcher sports a career record of two wins and a second from three starts, with earnings of $58,800.
