LAUREL, MD – Jockey Nik Juarez, born and raised an hour north of Laurel Park, put an exclamation point on his three-win afternoon by guiding Three Diamonds Farm’s Bonus Points to a come-from-behind 2 ¾-length victory the $150,000 Maryland Million Classic.

Run at 1 1/8 miles over the main track, the Classic for 3-year-olds and up was the centerpiece of the 32nd annual Jim McKay Maryland Million Day program comprised of seven stakes and four starter stakes held before a crowd of 22,682 on a picturesque fall afternoon.

Brown, Castellano team up with pair of victories on EmpireShowcase Day


$38K Pick 6 carryover on tap Sunday

ELMONT, N.Y. - Trainer Chad Brown and Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano teamed up Saturday afternoon at Belmont Park for back-to-back wins on Empire Showcase Day, a unique 11-race all-New York-bred card, including eight stakes races worth a total of $1.75 million in purses.

Peter Brant's Fifty Five got the duo off to a sharp start in the $200,000 Ticonderoga, plying her usual off-the-pace style to win by a length and cover 1 1/16 miles over the inner turf in 1:41.65.

The Get Stormy filly was rated eighth down the backside while the pace was set by Barrel of Dreams who set an opening quarter-mile in 25.17 seconds, and a half in 49.42. Fifty Five was sent along to close along the outside, and after three-quarters was run in 1:12.66, a strong outside charge allowed Fifty Five to take command in the stretch and clear of runner-up Flipcup and third-place finisher Ancient Secret.

Pre-entered fields for the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be announced via a live stream on http://www.breederscup.com, the Breeders’ Cup Official Mobile App and Facebook Live on Wednesday, October 25 at 11:30 a.m. ET.

The 34th Breeders’ Cup World Championships, consisting of 13 Grade 1 races with purses and awards totaling more than $28 million, will be held at the Del Mar racetrack on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4.

Puerto Rico’s Leading Jockey Diaz to Ride at Gulfstream

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – Puerto Rico’s legendary jockey Juan Carlos Diaz, the country’s leading jockey the past 16 years and the all-time leader in stakes victories, will begin riding at Gulfstream Park West Friday.

With no racing being conducted at Puerto Rico’s main racetrack, Camarero, due to the effects of Hurricane Irma, Diaz has decided to move his tack to South Florida. According to Diaz’s agent, Charlie Benitez, Diaz will remain in Florida through the Clasico Internacional del Caribe, which will be held at Gulfstream Park as part of the Championship Meet Saturday, Dec. 9.

Bred, owned and trained by Hall of Fame horseman King Leatherbury, Ben’s Cat’s long list of accomplishments include sharing Maryland Million records for most career wins (three) and most starts (seven). Had things gone according to plan, the Parker’s Storm Cat gelding would have likely been back for an eighth try this weekend.

New York, New York Pick 4 offered Saturday


ELMONT, N.Y. - Racing fans will have the opportunity to wager on a special thoroughbred/standardbred pick 4 on Saturday, October 14, when the New York Racing Association and Yonkers Raceway join to offer the New York, New York Pick 4.

The Pick 4 wager, hosted by NYRA, is comprised of the $1 Million Yonkers International Trot @ Empire City Casino featuring the premier international Standardbred horses in the world along with the Harry Harvey Invitational. Both races will feature 10 horses at the mile-and-a-quarter distance.

LAUREL, MD – Multiple stakes winner Just Call Kenny, who became a graded winner for the first time this summer, is being pointed to the $100,000 Richard W. Small for 3-year-olds and up next month at Laurel Park.

Contested at 1 1/8 miles, the Small is one of six stakes worth $575,000 in purses on a Saturday, Nov. 11 program that will also pay tribute to late Mid-Atlantic legend Ben’s Cat, featuring autographs from his connections and a bobblehead giveaway.

The Small would be the 10th start this year for Just Call Kenny, bred in Virginia and owned by ABL Stable, Dominic Bossone, James Cahill and Peter Donnelly. He is no stranger to Laurel having raced over the surface three times this year, most recently winning a seven-furlong optional claiming allowance April 21.

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 4, 2017) – The Club Racing, Needle in a Haystack and Sagamore Farm’s Miss Temple City, who last year became the first filly to win the Maker’s 46 Mile (G1) and Shadwell Turf Mile (G1), will attempt to become the third horse to repeat in the Shadwell when she faces 13 rivals in the 32nd running of the $1 million race.

The Shadwell Turf Mile is the centerpiece of a star-studded 10-race program Saturday that features five graded stakes of which three are Grade 1s. Other Grade 1 races are the 20th running of the $400,000 First Lady for fillies and mares going a mile on the grass and the 104th running of the $500,000 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity for 2-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles on the main track. Saturday’s 10-race program begins at 1:05 p.m. ET.
