NOTE – Through various sources, the Churchill Downs Communications Team has confirmed the following 21 horses have entered the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (in order of preference): Orb, Verrazano, Goldencents, Java’s War, Overanalyze, Revolutionary, Lines of Battle, Vyjack, Will Take Charge, Itsmyluckyday, Black Onyx, Palace Malice, Normandy Invasion, Frac Daddy, Mylute, Oxbow, Falling Sky, Charming Kitten, Golden Soul, Giant Finish and Fear the Kitten.

(May 1, 2013) – Jacks or Better Farm, Inc.’s Awesome Belle, a Florida Stallion Stakes winner in 2011 that captured four stakes at Calder during her 2012 campaign, returns to her south Florida home after a three-race winter stopover in Tampa to start in Saturday’s $55,000 Mairzy Doates, run over 1 1/16 miles of turf.

BLACK ONYX (No. 11) – Sterling Racing’s Black Onyx galloped 1 ¾ miles under exercise rider Aurelio Gomez during the Derby and Oaks training session.
“It was a little bit longer gallop, a little bit stronger at the end,” trainer Kelly Breen said. “He came out of it looking dynamite.”

KENTUCKY DERBY UPDATE – MONDAY, APRIL 29, 2013
BLACK ONYX (No. 11) – Sterling Racing’s Black Onyx jogged one mile under exercise rider Aurelio Gomez during the Derby and Oaks session. The Rock Hard Ten colt is officially dark bay or brown but appears black. His coat and overall striking appearance has made him a favorite with fans, especially photographers, who gather to admire the Spiral Stakes (Grade III) winner as he grazes behind Barn 41 each morning.
