Juddmonte Farms, Inc.’s Starformer assumed control soon after the start and led virtually every step of the way in Gulfstream Park’s featured ninth race run at 1 3/8 miles over firm turf on Monday. Ridden by Hall of Fame rider Edgar Prado for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, Starformer was able to carve out slow early fractions to the tune of :50 for the half mile and 1:16 1/5 for three-quarters. In the end, the 4-year-old filly by Dynaformer had plenty left to hold of Kathern’s Kitten and Sex Appeal who settled for second and third respectively. ‘Holiday Mood’ Brightens Gulfstream Park Winner’s Circle
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A step up into graded-stakes company and a drop-back in distance resulted in a gutsy triumph for R Holiday Mood in the $150,000 Hurricane Bertie Stakes (G3) Sunday at Gulfstream Park.
Returning to action off a dead-heat victory in the one-mile Ocala Stakes for Florida-bred fillies, in which she fought back at the wire to finish on even terms with Delightful Mary, R Holiday Mood once again demonstrated the courage to retake the lead nearing the wire to narrowly prevail in the 6 ½ -furlong sprint.

Making her first start since Nov. 5 at Churchill Downs on the Breeders’ Cup undercard, John Oxley’s 4-year-old filly Dancinginherdreams looked very good winning a $56,500 allowance race at 1 1/16 miles Sunday at Gulfstream Park, drawing off to score by a length as the 13-to-10 favorite under jockey Edgar Prado.
Trained by John Ward, Jr., the roan/gray daughter of Tapit sat a stalking trip third down the backstretch as longshot Annunciata set the pace in the field of seven fillies and mares before coming up to duel for the lead at the top of the stretch with second choice Majestic Maria. Howard Whitbread’s Go Unbridled rallied for second as Majestic Maria tired to finish another 3 ¾ lengths back in third.

Motion Rates Animal Kingdom’s Performance ‘Top Ten’
BOYNTON BEACH, FL - Trainer Graham Motion reported Sunday morning that Animal Kingdom seemed to come out of his comeback victory in Saturday’s fifth race at Gulfstream Park in fine order.
“He’s a very hard horse to read because he always acts kind of tired,” said Motion of his laid-back 2011 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner, who hadn’t raced since undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in his left hind leg in June. “But he certainly didn’t seem knocked out by it. I think we couldn’t ask for a better prep, really.”

He takes full advantage of being out on the track. He watched all the horses go by. When you take him to another track, he does the same thing.”
