BAFFERT SEEKS SECOND REAL QUIET WIN WITH CARVING


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (November 7, 2012)—Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert will seek his second consecutive win in the $100,000 Real Quiet Stakes when he saddles Carving Saturday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Restricted to 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track, the Real Quiet is a prep for the $750,000 guaranteed, Grade I CashCall Futurity, which will be run Saturday, Dec. 15. Named in honor of the 1998 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner and 1999 Hollywood Gold Cup champion, the Real Quiet is the third of nine races Saturday. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Track gates will open at 10 a.m.

FORMER BHP MARKETING EXEC CHRISTIAN DIES AT 42


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 30, 2012)—Claudene Christian, a former marketing executive at Betfair Hollywood Park, died Monday after the sinking of the HMS Tall Ship Bounty – as a result of Hurricane Sandy – off the coast of North Carolina.

A former Miss Teen Alaska, a graduate of USC and a song girl for the school, Christian, 42, was found unresponsive by the United States Coast Guard and was later pronounced dead at a North Carolina hospital.

SIMULCASTS AVAILABLE AT BETFAIR HOLLYWOOD PARK


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 25, 2012)—Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, the first of two Breeders’ Cup Day simulcasts from Santa Anita.
The first race from Santa Anita Friday has a scheduled post time of 11:15 a.m.
Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. The first race from Santa Anita is scheduled for 10:05 a.m.

$750,000 CASHCALL FUTURITY TOPS AUTUMN STAKES SCHEDULE


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2012) — The $750,000-guaranteed CashCall Futurity, an annual stop for future Triple Crown contenders, will once again be the most lucrative event on the stakes calendar for the 2012 Autumn meet at Betfair Hollywood Park.

A total of 18 stakes races with purses of more than $3.8 million are scheduled for the 24-day season, which begins Thursday, Nov. 8 and continues through Sunday, Dec. 16.

SUTHERLAND’S GOLD CUP WIN, BIG MEETS FOR BAFFERT, BEJARANO AMONG HIGHLIGHTS OF BETFAIR HOLLYWOOD


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 15, 2012) — A historic victory by jockey Chantal Sutherland in the $500,000 Hollywood Gold Cup, the dominance of Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert and jockey Rafael Bejarano, the emergence of the dynamic 2-year-old filly Executiveprivilege, Kentucky Derby and Preakness wins by local hero I’ll Have Another and the opening of the Betfair Hollywood Park Players Lounge were among the highlights of the Spring/Summer meet. The 50-day season at Betfair Hollywood Park concluded Sunday.

After guiding Game On Dude to an easy victory in the Grade II Californian June 2, Sutherland became the first female rider to win the Gold Cup aboard the 5-year-old Awesome Again gelding, defeating stablemate Richard’s Kid by 1 ½ lengths.

COMPETITIVE FIELD OF NINE SET FOR $350,000 AMERICAN OAKS; BOB BAFFERT SENDS OUT TWO I


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 11, 2012)—My Gi Gi, Lady of Shamrock and Stormy Lucy, the 1-2-3 finishers in the Grade II Honeymoon Handicap June 9, will square off again in the Grade I, $350,000 American Oaks – Presented by American Airlines - Saturday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

The 11th renewal of the 1 ¼ mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies is one of four stakes to be offered on the next-to-last day of the Spring/Summer meet.

STRETCH SURGE CARRIES TROIS AUREOLE IN LE CLE


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 8, 2012)—Receiving the waiting ride she prefers, Trois Aureole was an easy winner of the $69,700 Le Cle Stakes Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

The victory by 1½ lengths under jockey Joe Talamo was the third in four starts around two turns for the 3-year-old English Channel filly out of the Saint Ballado mare Two Halos.

Hollywood Park: STABLE NOTES THURSDAY, JULY 8, 2012


MIKE MITCHELL VISITED HIS STABLE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

Phil D’Amato, who stepped in admirably in the wake of Mike Mitchell’s surgery, said Sunday the trainer is getting stronger and stronger every day.

Mitchell underwent a successful procedure to remove a brain tumor June 29th at USC Medical Center.

GAME ON DUDE GIVES SUTHERLAND HISTORIC GOLD CUP WIN


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 7, 2012)—A year after she and Game On Dude lost by a nose to First Dude in the Grade I, $500,000 Hollywood Gold Cup, jockey Chantal Sutherland and Awesome Again gelding made amends in 2012.

The anticipated victory by the 2-5 favorite in the 73rd renewal of Betfair Hollywood Park’s signature race was historic. Sutherland, who became the first female to ride in the race in 2011, became the first of her sex to win Saturday, prevailing by 1 ½ lengths over 5-2 second choice Richard’s Kid.
