DRUG MONEY LAUNDERING AND EQUINE WELFARE CONCERNS PROMPT ARCI TO CALL FOR REGULATION OF BREEDING AND SALES.

Citing the widespread use of drugs on yearlings and two years olds that may result in improper bone development and the recent use of horse auctions to launder money for the drug cartel, the Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI) is formally calling for the independent regulation of the breeding and sales industries.

“These significant portions of the racing industry are totally unregulated,” said ARCI Chair Jeff Colliton. “If we care about our horses and the integrity of the sport, the racing industry can no longer turn a blind eye to the need to address this shortcoming.”

National Museum of Racing announces 2016 Hall of Fame finalists


SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Four jockeys, four Thoroughbreds and two trainers comprise the 10 finalists on the National Museum of Racing’s 2016 Hall of Fame ballot, as selected by the Museum’s Hall of Fame Nominating Committee. The finalists are: jockeys Ramon Dominguez, Victor Espinoza, Garrett Gomez and Craig Perret; Thoroughbreds English Channel, Kona Gold, Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta; and trainers Steve Asmussen and David Whiteley.

CHRIS McCARRON JOINS WHOA IN SUPPORT OF FEDERAL LEGISLATION


Chris McCarron, two-time Eclipse Award winning jockey and member of the National Racing Hall of Fame, has joined the Water Hay Oats Alliance in support of federal legislation to ban race day medication. He becomes the first jockey to join the organization as a supporter calling for drug reform and uniformity.

6th Annual HANA Track Rankings Released. Keeneland, Kentucky Downs Shine


(Charlottesville, VA, April 2nd, 2014) For the sixth consecutive year, Keeneland topped the 2014 racetrack ratings produced by the Horseplayers Association of North America.

The HANA Racetrack Ratings are based on an algorithm using factors indicative of horseplayer betting value, gleaned from both empirical and academic study. Key factors including takeout rate, field size, wager variety, pool size, and signal distribution are analyzed track by track and weighted to produce a final composite score. Each of the 64 tracks is listed in rank order.

Endorse the National Uniform Medication Program


Dear Supporters

To bring forward much-needed uniformity to the medication rules and
penalties in horse racing, there needs to be a streamlined set of regulations that is on par with international standards and creates new enforcement scheme with stronger penalties and deterrents. The adoption of the National Uniform Medication Program would do just that.

The Jockey Club announced today that the 2014 edition of the Fact Book is available in the Resources section of its website at jockeyclub.com.

The online Fact Book is a statistical and informational guide to Thoroughbred breeding, racing and auction sales in North America. It also features a directory of state, national and international organizations.
