AWESOME AGAIN STAKES QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

TYLER BAZE, SMOOTH ROLLER, WINNER: “This is his fourth race and from the very beginning Victor told me he could really run and he proved it. I worked him last week and ever since I’ve been on him down at Del Mar he’s turned into a monster work horse in the morning; he really wants to do it. Last week, Victor wasn’t here, he was at the Keeneland Sale. He called and told me to go seven eighths in 1:28. I literally breezed him in 1:25. I called him and told him ‘that’s as easy as he wants to go and he did it the right way.’

RODEO DRIVE STAKES QUOTES

DRAYDEN VAN DYKE, PHOTO CALL, WINNER: “I picked up the mount from Graham (Motion, trainer.) He’s been very nice to me and given me some nice horses, given me a lot of opportunities. Graham told me to place her behind the lead horses and just try to get her to shut off as much as possible. In her last race she was pretty sharp the whole way. She was tugging on me a little but we got into a nice, happy rhythm.

CHANDELIER STAKES QUOTES

MIKE SMITH, SONGBIRD, WINNER: “It lived up to the expectations. She opens that stride up and she has such a high cruising speed.

“Not only does she have the ability but she has the mind to go with it. There are so many horses with that kind of ability but a lot can get to them. She’s so intelligent, she’s so smart and listens to everything I tell her. I got her to fall asleep there on the lead but she fell asleep too much! I had to wake her up a little bit at the eighth pole but after that she jumped back into the bridle and it was over.

ZENYATTA STAKES QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

GARY STEVENS, BEHOLDER, WINNER: “Richard has a big smile on his face. He told me yesterday, ‘I want to win but by no means do I want to knock her out.’ We couldn’t have scripted it any better. I told him that he might have to tack-walk her in the morning because she pulled up full of it.”
