Hagyard Fayette (G2) Quotes

Corey Lanerie (winning rider of Pick of the Litter)

“I had a great trip. My horse broke really good. My plan was to try to get behind Departing; I thought he was the horse to beat and to try not to let him get out of my sights. I wanted to stay kinda close to him and see what I had turning for home, see if I had enough to go by him or not.”

Keeneland Statement Regarding Kentucky Race Dates:

Keeneland understands and appreciates the conflicting interests and priorities that have resulted in the recommended schedule of racing dates for the late summer and early fall of 2015. While we accept the decision of the Race Dates Committee for the coming year, the Commission needs to know that we will vigorously oppose any effort to make that schedule a template for future years.

Quotes from the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup

Bill Mott (winning trainer of Crown Queen)

“We ran her a couple of times as a 2-year-old, and (owner) Mr. (Ben) Leon wanted to give her some time over the winter to mature and grow up a little bit. It’s worked out perfectly. He made a good call, and she’s undefeated this season and now she’s a Grade 1 stakes winner. It was a very special win for me since I trained her mother (Delta Princess) and her grandmother (Lyphard’s Delta) and a lot of the family (including her multiple champion half-sister, Royal Delta). It’s a very meaningful win for me.”

Quotes from the $150,000 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (G3)

Dr. Stephen Jackson (director of Three Chimneys Farm, winning owner of Rainha Da Bateria)

“I hope we’re going (to the Breeders’ Cup); we plan to, anyway. She ran huge and (trainer) Graham (Motion) had her teed up and ready to go. We always thought she was a nice filly, so hopefully we’ll be in California in about three weeks (for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf).”

Quotes from the $250,000 Dixiana Bourbon

Ken McPeek (winning trainer of Lawn Ranger)

“I felt like he needed to go to another level. His race at Kentucky Downs (a 3¾-length maiden victory Sept. 13) was a pleasant surprise. He seems like a horse that’s maturing, and I think he’s gonna be even better as a 3-year-old. Our fingers are crossed that will happen.

Quotes from the $1 million Shadwell Turf Mile

Charlie LoPresti (winning trainer of Wise Dan)

“His head was turned sideways, and he missed the break a little bit but that’s what happened to him in the Breeders’ Cup (Mile, G1) last year. He stumbled. I was a little worried down the backside. Silver Max got a slow quarter (mile time) up front. I thought, ‘Man, somebody’s got to go.’ He’s just an incredible horse. He’s incredible. That’s all I can say. Thank God.”

Quotes from the $500,000 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity

Elliott Walden (President/CEO and Racing Manager of WinStar Farm, which owns Carpe Diem with Stonestreet Stables)

“He ran great at Saratoga and then to come here in a Grade 1 like this and put it all together like that around two turns, it’s very exciting. This horse is a beautiful horse, he’s got a great pedigree and we hoping to make a stallion. I think we did that today.”

Quotes from the $400,000 First Lady

John Velazquez (winning rider of Dayatthespa)

“She came out of there (starting gate) very well. (One of the owners) told me (trainer) Chad (Brown) said make sure to drop inside going into that first turn. He didn’t want to be three wide early. She broke really well and the other speed went to the front, so it worked well. I was just holding it together and when I let her go at the quarter pole, she was all fresh. She finished unbelievable – really, really good. She started to look around a little bit around the sixteenth pole, so I hit her one time to keep her mind running but she was doing really well.”

Quotes from the $200,000 Thoroughbred Club of America

Josie Carroll (winning trainer of Leigh Court)

On returning Leigh Court to a race on the dirt
“(Breeder and owner Eugene) Melnyk was hoping for a horse for the Breeders’ Cup. We sat down and talked about it, and we thought this was the best direction to take to get there. It worked out just fine.”
