Keeneland 2013 Spring Stakes Schedule Worth $3.625 Million


LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 17, 2013) – Keeneland will offer 16 stakes worth $3.625 million for its 2013 spring race meeting, headlined by the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) and Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1), for colts and fillies, respectively, with classic aspirations.

The 16-day spring meeting will be held April 5-26, and features racing Wednesdays through Sundays. Post time for the first race each day is 1:05 p.m. ET. Fifteen of the spring’s 16 stakes are graded, highlighted by five Grade 1 events. Half of the stakes will be run on Polytrack and half contested on turf.

Strong Trade, Stable Market Define Keeneland November Sale


LEXINGTON, KY (Nov. 16, 2012) – Demand for quality broodmares and strong participation from both foreign and domestic buyers, particularly at the top levels of the market, generated solid business trade throughout Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale, which concluded Friday.

Gross sales for the 11-day auction, held November 6-16, totaled $143,025,600 for the sale of 2,414 horses, for an average of $59,248 and a median price of $22,000. Last year, 2,554 horses brought $208,511,200, for an average of $81,641 and a median of $24,000.

Full Sister to Juddmonte Spinster Stakes Winner In Lingerie Brings Second-Highest Price

LEXINGTON, KY (Nov. 10, 2012) –Atrea, out of the Capote mare New Dice and from the family of Get Lucky that has produced grade 1 winner Girolamo, Grade 2 winner Daydreaming and 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, topped Saturday’s session of the 2012 November Breeding Stock Sale. The five-year-old Storm Cat mare, in foal to Flatter, sold for $435,000 to Glen Hill Farm. She was consigned by Lane’s End, as agent.

Newsdad Rallies to Two-Length Victory in Fayette


LEXINGTON, KY (October 27, 2012) – James Karp’s Newsdad closed from seventh in a field of 10 at the head of the stretch to wear down Take Charge Indy and win the 55th running of the $150,000 Fayette (G2) by two lengths over Nikki’s Sandcastle before a closing-day crowd of 14,737 at Keeneland on Saturday.

Newsdad was ridden to victory by Julien Leparoux, who became the first jockey in the history of the race to win in three consecutive years. Leparoux won on Successful Dan in 2010 and Wise Dan in 2011.

Sweet Cassiopeia Takes Hermitage Purse at Keeneland


LEXINGTON, KY (October 26, 2012) – Dan Considine and Steve Snowden’s Sweet Cassiopeia emerged from a tight pack of horses in upper stretch and went on to win the featured $59,000 Hermitage Purse for fillies and mares by a neck over Queen’s Award before a crowd of 12,247 on Friday afternoon at Keeneland.

Trained by Bill Connelly and ridden by Corey Lanerie, who posted his third victory of the afternoon, Sweet Cassiopeia covered the 6½ furlongs on the main track in 1:15.65.
