Keeneland to Offer $10 General Admission Season Pass for Spring Meet


Lexington, KY (March 5, 2009) – Keeneland will offer fans a general admission season pass at an introductory price of $10 for its spring race meeting, to be held April 3-24.

Passes are on sale now at Keeneland.com for $10 (plus a $3 processing fee). The pass carries a value of $80 and is good for admission on all of Keeneland’s 15 spring race days, including Toyota Blue Grass Day, Saturday, April 11. The pass also is valid for Kentucky Derby Day at Keeneland, Saturday, May 2.

Keeneland Schedules “Live Money” Handicapping Contest


Lexington, Ky. (Feb. 27, 2009)—On Sunday, April 19, Keeneland will host the “Grade One Gamble,” a live money handicapping contest that will send three people to the 2010 DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas.

The “Grade One Gamble” will be limited to players who pay a $3,000 entry fee of which $1,800 must be wagered on Keeneland’s nine-race program. The contest will be limited to 30 players.

Champion Stardom Bound Leads 120 Ashland Stakes (G1) Nominations


Lexington, KY (February 27, 2009) – Stardom Bound, winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and reigning two-year-old filly champion, headlines 120 nominees to Keeneland’s $400,000 Ashland Stakes (G1), scheduled for Saturday, April 4.

Run at 1 1/16 miles, the Ashland is a premier prep for the Kentucky Oaks (G1). Since 1936, 31 fillies have used the Ashland as a steppingstone to victory in the Oaks. Last year, Proud Spell rebounded to win the Oaks off a third-place finish in the Ashland. Ashland winner, Little Belle, ran second by ¾ of a length in the Oaks.

Champion Midshipman Headlines 183 Nominations to Keeneland’s Toyota Blue Grass (G1)


Lexington, KY (February 26, 2009) – Godolphin Racing’s 2008 champion juvenile colt Midshipman highlights an all-star list of 183 three-year-olds nominated to Keeneland’s $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1), to be held Saturday, April 11.

The 1 1/8-mile Toyota Blue Grass, contested over Keeneland’s Polytrack surface, is one of the country’s richest preps for the Kentucky Derby (G1). Nineteen horses, including most recently Street Sense in 2007, have used the Blue Grass as a steppingstone to victory in the Derby. Counted among this year’s 183 nominations – the most in more than two decades – are many of the nation’s top Triple Crown contenders.

Keeneland Catalogs 212 Juveniles For 2009 April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale


Lexington, KY (February 18, 2009) – Keeneland has cataloged 212 juveniles for its April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale, to be held Monday and Tuesday evenings, April 6-7. Sessions begin at 7 p.m. ET. The Preview Show will be held Thursday, April 2, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

A PDF version of the April Sale catalog will be available February 20 at Keeneland.com; print catalogs will be mailed the week of March 2. The entire sale as well as Preview Show works will be streamed live at Keeneland.com

Keeneland Rated #1 By Horseplayers Association of North America


Lexington, KY (February 12, 2009) – The Horseplayers Association of North America (HANA) has ranked Keeneland first among 65 of the continent’s top racetracks in its inaugural Track Rating System.

HANA is a grassroots, not-for-profit group comprised of more than 500 horseplayers with a combined handle of approximately $30 million annually.

Keeneland Schedules 17 Stakes Worth $3.8 Million


Lexington, Ky. (January 23, 2009)—Seventeen stakes races worth a total of $3.8 million will be run during Keeneland’s spring meeting, beginning April 3 and continuing through April 24.

Highlighting the schedule are the $750,000, Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes for 3-year-olds on Saturday, April 11, and the $400,000, Grade 1 Ashland Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday, April 4.

Keeneland Concludes January Horses of All Ages Sale


Lexington, KY (January 17, 2009) – A large, diverse contingent of domestic and foreign buyers participated in Keeneland’s recently concluded January Horses of All Ages Sale, despite the ongoing global financial crisis.

Gross receipts for the six-day auction, held January 12-17, totaled $32,824,000, down 53.4 percent from last year’s seven-day total of $70,446,000. Average price of $24,532 declined 48 percent from $47,184 reported in 2008. The median of $9,500 decreased 44.1 percent from last year’s $17,000. A total of 1,338 horses sold compared to 1,493 a year ago. The not sold rate dropped 9.2 percent when compared to 2008.

White Colt Brings Highest Price on Friday at Keeneland


Lexington, KY (January 16, 2009) – White Prince, a white yearling colt by Devil His Due, attracted a final bid of $60,000 to top Friday’s session of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Consigned by Hopewell Farm LLC, as agent for Patchen Wilkes Farm, the colt is out of Patchen Beauty, by Hatchet Man. He was purchased by Florida-based pinhooker Christy Whitman.

Yearlings Headline Thursday at Keeneland January Sale


Lexington, KY (January 15, 2009) – Yearlings dominated the Thursday session of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale, led by a Street Cry (IRE) filly who sold for $125,000.

Front Range Farm purchased the filly, who is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Dash of Humor. She was consigned by Tom Evans’ Trackside Farm, agent.

Maria’s Mon Colt Highlights Wednesday at Keeneland January Sale


Lexington, KY (January 14, 2009) – A yearling colt by Maria’s Mon brought $390,000 to top Wednesday’s session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Florida pinhooker Jimmy Gladwell signed the ticket in the name of his Ferguson Valley Ranch. He said the colt would be sent to his Kindergarten Farm near Williston, Florida, and be sold at auction later this year.

Vestrey Lady Brings $300,000 On Tuesday at Keeneland


Lexington, KY (January 13, 2009) – Stakes winning Vestrey Lady, in foal to Broken Vow, commanded a top price of $300,000 during Tuesday’s session of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Nobuo Tsunoda bought the six-year-old mare who is by Vicar out of the Kris S. mare Episode and is from the family of champion Street Sense and graded stakes winner and sire Mr. Greeley. She was consigned by Cara Bloodstock (Bernard McCormack), agent.
