Island Fashion, Almonsoon Top Opening Day Of Keeneland January Sale


Lexington, KY (January 12, 2008) – Island Fashion, in foal to Ghostzapper, and Almonsoon, sold as a racing or broodmare prospect, each brought final bids of $950,000 to highlight opening day of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Naohiro Hosoda signed the ticket for Island Fashion on behalf of Katsumi Yoshida, owner of Northern Farm in Japan.

Keeneland January Sale Opens Monday


Lexington, KY (January 9, 2009) – Keeneland kicks off its 2009 sale season on Monday with its January Horses of All Ages Sale.

The six-day auction, which runs January 12-17, will feature the sale of 2002 Horse of the Year Azeri, offered in foal to 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper. Azeri is one of only six fillies ever to win Horse of the Year honors, and the only female to earn three Eclipse Awards as champion older mare (2002, 2003 and 2004).

Keeneland Announces 2008 Contributions For Community and Horse Industry


Lexington, KY (December 16, 2008) – Keeneland announced its 2008 contributions at its annual holiday luncheon today, reporting for the first time funding for community and charitable organizations as well as the association's reinvestment in equine-related initiatives.

Keeneland’s funding program is supported by profits generated through its Thoroughbred racing, sales, and simulcast operations.

Horse of the Year Azeri Headlines Keeneland January Sale


Lexington, KY (December 3, 2008) – Azeri, 2002 Horse of the Year and three-time champion older mare, in foal to 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper, highlights Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale, to be held January 12-17.

Azeri is one of only six fillies ever to win Horse of the Year honors, and the only female to earn three Eclipse Awards as champion older mare (2002, 2003 and 2004). During four seasons of racing, Azeri won 17 of 24 starts, including 14 graded stakes, and amassed earnings of $4,079,820. Among her 11 Grade 1 victories were wins in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Apple Blossom Handicap (three times), Vanity Handicap (twice), Milady Breeders’ Cup (twice), and Juddmonte Spinster Stakes.

Keeneland’s Vinery Madison Stakes Awarded Grade 1 Status; Three Other Stakes Upgraded


Lexington, KY (November 25, 2008) – The American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association has elevated the graded status of Keeneland’s Vinery Madison, Thoroughbred Club of America, Fayette and Woodford Stakes for 2009.

“Stakes achieve upgrades because of the quality of the horses who participate in them. On behalf of Keeneland, I want to thank all the horsemen who support our racing program,” said Rogers Beasley, Keeneland’s director of racing.

Keeneland Concludes November Breeding Stock Sale


Lexington, KY (November 17, 2008) – Demand for quality individuals, particularly race mares and weanlings, remained strong during Keeneland’s recently concluded November Breeding Stock Sale, despite a market battered by the global financial crisis.

Gross receipts for the 15-day auction, held November 3-17, totaled $185,552,300, down 45.6 percent from last year’s record $340,877,200. Average price of $61,462 declined 39 percent from $100,821 reported in 2007. The median of $20,000 decreased 42.9 percent from last year’s $35,000. A total of 3,019 horses sold compared to 3,381 a year ago.

Stallion Prospects Top Sunday at Keeneland


Lexington, KY (November 16, 2008) – Earth Planet and Major General, each sold as a racing or stallion prospect, headlined Sunday’s session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Oscar Lobo paid $60,000, the day’s highest price, for Earth Planet. The four-year-old colt is a half-brother by Distant View to several stakes winners, including Group 1 winner and European high weight Danehill.

Legal Move Sells for $245,000 on Saturday at Keeneland


Lexington, KY (November 15, 2008) – Legal Move, a four-year-old son of Bold Executive, sold as a racing or stallion prospect, brought $245,000 to highlight Saturday’s session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Canadian Bruno Schickedanz bought the colt, who is a stakes winner at Woodbine. He was consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

Sky Mesa Colt Tops at Keeneland on Friday


Lexington, KY (November 14, 2008) – A weanling colt by Sky Mesa sold for $77,000 during the Friday session of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale.

Goldmine Investments purchased the colt, out of the Mr. Greeley mare Princess Falina and from the family of champion mare Cascapedia and Australian graded stakes winner Republic Lass. He was consigned by Margaux Farm LLC, agent.

Quick Command Sells for $100,000 on Thursday at Keeneland


Lexington, KY (November 13, 2008) – Quick Command, in foal to Bernstein, brought a final bid of $100,000 to highlight Thursday’s session of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale.

The five-year-old Gold Legend mare is from the family of European champion Katies (IRE). She was purchased by E-Stable and consigned by Belvedere Farm Inc. (Marty Takacs), agent.

Weanling Colt by Indian Charlie Tops Wednesday Session at Keeneland


Lexington, KY (November 12, 2008) – The weanling market remained strong at Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale, where colts by Indian Charlie and Tapit accounted for the highest prices on Wednesday.

Shannon Run Stables paid the day’s top price of $110,000 for the Indian Charlie colt from the consignment of Eaton Sales, agent. Out of Willa Time, by Gilded Time, the colt is from the family of Travers Stakes (G1) winner Will’s Way and Ashland Stakes (G1) winner Willa On the Move.

Colts Command Attention on Monday at Keeneland


Lexington, KY (November 10, 2008) – Weanling colts by young sires captured the top prices at Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale on Monday, where a colt by Tapit sold for $250,000 to Ben Glass, agent.

Consigned by Elm Tree Farm LLC (Mr. and Mrs. Jody Huckabay), agent, the colt is out of the Green Dancer mare Rumba Punch, and is a half-brother to stakes winner Lyin’ Heart.
