Dance to Bristol Scores Easily in Marshua Stakes
LAUREL , MD. 2-4-12---Copperville Farm’s Dance to Bristol scored an easy win in today’s feature at Laurel Park, the $100,000 Marshua Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.
Sent to post at 4-5 under Elias Peltrouche, the Charles Town-based shipper pressed the easy pace of Double the Energy before ranging up to take the lead in mid-stretch and pulling away to win by 5-3/4 lengths. Terralba rallied to take second and Defy Gravity was third.

LAUREL, MD, 01-28-12---Klaravich Stables, Inc & William Lawrence’s Beggarthyneighbor proved that Beyer numbers are as good a handicapping tool as any as the New York-based invader drove to victory in the $100,000 Dancing Count Stakes for 3-year-olds this afternoon at Laurel Park.
Coming off a maiden win at Aqueduct on New Year‘s Day, the Chad Brown trainee sat off the pace set by Costas Fiftieth before wrestling the lead in mid-stretch while under hard urging by jockey Malcolm Franklin to win by a length in 1:09.80. Trippi’s Secret fended off Ill Conceived to take second.

Castellano Rides Four Winners-Stakes Advance-Maryland Million Polar Bear Plungers
LAUREL, MD. 01-26-12---Abel Castellano rode four winners Thursday afternoon to take over the top spot in the jockey standings at the Laurel Park winter meeting.
The 28-year-old won aboard Lord Kipling ($3.40-second), Yano ($4.40-third), Myrasira ($7.20-seventh) and Diner Gal ($6.20-ninth).

PENNIES APPEAL WINS THRILLING THREE-WAY PHOTO
LAUREL, MD. 01-25-12---Pennies Appeal, who was claimed in December by owner Robert Cole of Rapid Redux fame, surged from fourth place just a half-furlong from the finish to win in a blanket finish in today’s eighth race at Laurel Park, a $31,000 allowance.
The winning margin was a nose over Allwewantforxmas, with Promise Me another nose farther back in third. The result was in doubt until the placing judges could review the photo, as each horse pushed a nose in front at some point in the final jumps to the wire.

Capuano Moves To Within 5 of 3,000/Pino Now 12th on All-Time Win List
LAUREL, MD. 01-21-12---Only twenty-five trainers in North American history have saddled 3,000 winners. Laurel Park-based Dale Capuano moved to within five victories of that plateau after Maple Leaf Racer ($4) won Saturday’s third race by a nose over Wakina.
“We are getting there,” said Capuano, who won his initial race with Who’s Lucky at Bowie Race Track in 1981. “This is fun. It is neat chasing history.”

EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH, RED’S ROUND TABLE MAKE 2012 DEBUTS SATURDAY
LAUREL, MD. 01-20-12---Eighttofasttocatch and Red’s Round Table, who combined to win seven stakes races for trainer Tim Keefe last year, will make their 2012 debuts Saturday afternoon.
Eighttofasttocatch is the second choice on the morning line in the $75,000 Evening Attire Stakes at Aqueduct. Keefe put three solid works into his now 6-year-old since a wire-to-wire score in the Jennings Handicap at Laurel Park on December 3. Sheldon Russell will make the trip to ride.

RUSSELL, KOBISKIE HONORED FOR 2011 TITLES AND EACH WIN TWO RACES ON SATURDAY CARD
LAUREL, MD. 01-14-12---The Maryland Jockey Club honored jockey Sheldon Russell and trainer Dane Kobiskie between races Saturday for finishing atop the standings at Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course last year.
In addition to the presentations, both Russell and Kobiskie visited the winners’ circle twice this afternoon.

MARYLAND RACING COMMISSION STEWARDS DQ KING AND CRUSADER FROM MARYLAND JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY
LAUREL, MD. 01-13-12---King and Crusader was disqualified from an upset score in the Maryland Juvenile Championship at Laurel Park on December 17, 2011 for receiving a medication too close to the race. Glib, who finished 1-1/4 lengths behind the winner, has been declared the victor.
The decision was made earlier this week by Maryland Racing Commission stewards Phil Grove, John Burke and Adam Campola after a hearing last Saturday. The trainers of the second, third and fourth place finishers of the race filed a protest after discovering that King and Crusader, who was shipping in from Rick Dutrow’s Aqueduct barn, was treated for Lasix by a private veterinarian within two hours of the race, a violation of COMAR 09.10.03.04 B.
Call of a Lion’s Win Streak Ends At Seven
LAUREL, MD. 01-12-12---The streak was stopped at seven this afternoon after C & B Stable’s Call of a Lion finished third against starter allowance company at Laurel Park. Regal Nurse and Fix You beat Call of a Lion to the finish line in the one-mile test.
Claimed for $5,000 on January 17, 2011 by Charles “Snake” Frock, Call of a Lion was a perfect seven-for-seven a year ago, including six victories for Frock, who raised the daughter of Lion Hearted but lost her via the claim for $32,000 to owner Robert Cole and trainer Scott Lake in August 2010 at Monmouth Park. Her wins included the 2011 Maryland Million Distaff Starter Handicap on October 1.

BARBARA FRITCHIE AND GENERAL GEORGE HANDICAPS HEADLINE WINTER STAKES SCHEDULE
LAUREL, MD. 12-12---The 2012 Laurel Park winter meeting will feature 11 stakes races, pending Maryland Racing Commission approval, after the Maryland Jockey Club and Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association agreed to a schedule. The next commission meeting is Tuesday, January 17 at Laurel Park.
Headlining the program will be a pair of Grade 2 $200,000 seven-furlong sprints on President’s Day weekend: the Barbara Fritchie Handicap for fillies and mares on Saturday, February 18 and the General George Handicap for males two days later.

ROOK OUT SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS WITH BROKEN COLLARBONE
LAUREL, MD. 01-06-12---Apprentice rider Sarah Rook will miss six to eight weeks after breaking her left collarbone Thursday afternoon at Laurel Park. Rook was tossed from Nucky Thompson while galloping out following a third place finish in the finale.
“She is in good spirits,” said Tim Walsh, her agent.

RAPID REDUX HOLDS OFF AWESOME RHYTHM FOR HIS 22ND CONSECUTIVE VICTORY
LAUREL, MD. 01-04-12---What a day it was for Rapid Redux’s owner Robert Cole! This morning it was announced Rapid Redux had earned a Special Eclipse Award and a trip to Beverly Hills for the Baltimore County native later this month. A couple hours later baseball Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson wished him well as his star runner looked to continue his winning ways. Then Rapid Redux did his part, holding off Awesome Rhythm in the sixth race at Laurel Park for his 22nd consecutive victory.
“Being a local it is fun winning in front of the home crowd,” said Cole, a 1981 graduate of Loch Raven High School. “A lot of my friends are here. I was a bettor for years before I was an owner. I know the people here and it is fun to win with my friends.”
