2012 Classic Champion Returns from 3-Year Hiatus

LAUREL, MD – Seven years ago, Not Abroad was sent to trainer Lynn Ashby’s Delaware farm to be prepared for a racing career.

Now, after 35 races, multiple stakes wins, two graded-stakes placings and a nearly three-year layoff – that's right, a nearly three year layoff – the 8-year-old Maryland-bred son of Not For Love is being given a chance to do what he likes best…being a racehorse.

Maryland Million Week Kicks Off With Russell Winning 5K Division


LAUREL, MD - Jockey Sheldon Russell and other runners kicked off Jim McKay Maryland Million week Sunday morning by braving 40 degree temperatures at Laurel Park to participate in the Maryland Million 5K for Special Olympics Maryland.

Russell, a perennial leading rider in Maryland and avid runner, was the first male to cross the finish line at 20:00.2 after beginning the race out of Laurel's starting gate and running down the main stretch.

LAUREL, MD. 11-15-14---Zayat Stables LLC’s Zee Bros, dismissed at odds of 29-1, proved to be the swiftest of all in the $350,000 Frank J. DeFrancis Memorial Dash. The De Francis Dash was the marquee race in Saturday’s Fall Festival of Racing at Laurel Park, which featured six stakes.

TEN SPRINTERS ENTERED IN SATURDAY’S DE FRANCIS DASH


LAUREL, MD. 11-12-14---Ten sprinters have been entered in Saturday’s 23rd running of the $350,000 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash at Laurel Park, including local star Ben’s Cat.

Introduced in 1990, the De Francis Dash is one of the elite 6-furlong sprints in the country with four of the 22 winners-Housebuster (1991), Cherokee Run (1994), Smoke Glacken (1997) and Thor’s Echo (2006)-earning Eclipse Award honors for champion sprinter.
