Impressive Al Rashidiya win for Musir


Musir could not have been more impressive when winning the Dubai Duty Free-sponsored Group 2 Al Rashidiya, the 1800m turf feature at Meydan on Thursday evening, in front of a large crowd which included His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minster of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Jockey Christophe Soumillon oozed confidence throughout on the Mike de Kock-trained five-year-old son of Redoute’s Choice who was following up an equally impressive win in the Group 3 Al Maktoum Challenge Round I (1600m all-weather) on his previous start.

Dubai Sheema Classic, sponsored by Longines attracts 254 Nominees


The US$5 million Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic sponsored by Longines, one of the chief supporting races on the 2012 Dubai World Cup card has attracted 254 nominations from 14 countries.

This will be the 15th running of the 2,410m contest (first run in 1998) that annually attracts some of the world’s greatest turf stayers. Last year trainer Mahmoud Al Zarooni, registered his first win in the Dubai Sheema Classic and will be seeking to defend his title with 14 entries. They are led by French Navy, Dubai Prince and Casamento.

Stars for Thursday’s Al Rashidiya


Dubai Duty Free sponsor Thursday's sixth meeting of the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival, which is appropriate considering the featured Group 2 Al Rashidiya has twice been won by subsequent Dubai World Cup night Group 1 Dubai Duty Free winners – the first of which was Right Approach in 2004.

The second to win both 1800m turf features was Presvis, who registered the notable double for UK-based trainer Luca Cumani last year and seeks to become the first horse to win the Al Rashidiya twice.

Dubai World Cup, sponsored by Emirates Airline attracts 271 Nominees


The list of nominees for the US$10 million Group 1 Dubai World Cup sponsored by Emirates Airline, is compiled of an international cast of some of racing’s current and rising stars, and features a number of trainers who have previously won the world’s richest race.

This will be the 17th renewal of the famed event and will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012, as part of the overall 9 race programme that serves as the world’s richest day in racing valued at US$27.25 million.

Dubai World Cup Carnival Programme to feature Group 2 Al Rashidiya


Dubai, UAE, 24 January 2012 – The Group 2 Al Rashidiya will serve as the highlight of the sixth Dubai World Cup Carnival racemeeting this Thursday, and will be sponsored by Dubai Duty Free, a pillar partner of the Meydan Group.

Post time is 6:30 pm for the racing programme that will feature six races and serve as the sixth of the Dubai World Cup Carnival’s scheduled 16-race days.

Dubai, UAE 23 January 2012 - Many of racing’s biggest names from 24 countries are among the entries for the 2012 Dubai World Cup programme , the world’s richest race meeting, at Meydan on Saturday March 31st.

Five United States’ Breeders’ Cup winners are among the entries as are the winners of last year’s Kentucky Derby (Animal Kingdom), Britain’s Epsom Oaks (Blue Bunting), Champion Stakes (Cirrus des Aigles),Ascot Gold Cup (Fame And Glory),and Eclipse Stakes (So You Think) together with Australia’s Melbourne Cup (Dunaden) , Golden Slipper (Sepoy), Caulfield Guineas (Helmet) and the world’s champion sprinter Black Caviar.

Ip Man nabs Meydan feature


Dubai, UAE, 21 January 2012 - Singapore-based trainer Steven Burridge has made a flying start to the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival and saddled his third winner from only four runners when Ip Man broke the track record in the concluding featured 1400m Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group handicap at Meydan on Saturday evening on a card, like Friday's, sponsored by the Al Naboodah Group.

Ip Man was produced with a withering late run by Oscar Chavez who now has the enviable record of two winners from two rides in the UAE. Burridge said: "That is only the horse's fifth start and we did not what to expect from him here in Dubai. We could well look at the UAE 2000 Guineas with him now as he is only three and hopefully has a lot more to offer."

Competitive field line up in Abu Dhabi


The Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club sponsor their meeting this Sunday, which is highlighted by a 1600m Purebred Arabian handicap for which 13 have been declared. It looks a very competitive affair with several in form rivals clashing with others taking a big drop in class.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum owns both Versac PY and Quite A Show who have been running well this season.

First City wins Cape Verdi


First City, making her UAE debut and first start for local champion trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe, secured a thrilling victory in the Group Two Cape Verdi Sponsored By The Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group, the 1600m turf feature of the fourth meeting of the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

The Cape Verdi, restricted to fillies and mares, produced the best finish of the night with Royston Ffrench producing First City to lead in the last strides and deny Pick Six favourite Mahbooba.

Full field for Meydan feature on Saturday


Dubai, UAE 20 January 2012 - The Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group is the generous sponsor of Saturday's fifth meeting of the 2012 Dubai World Cup Carnival which is highlighted by the concluding 1400m Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group handicap.
