Etisalat joins the racing action at Nad Al Sheba on Friday


Friday’s meeting at Nad Al Sheba, is kindly sponsored Etisalat.

This Dubai International Racing Carnival meeting is eighth in a series of 10, and the competition is building up as 2009 Dubai World Cup approaches and the season draws to an end.

Frank Gabriel Jr, CEO of Dubai Racing Club said: “Etisalat has been a fantastic supporter of the Dubai International Racing Carnival and of course, the Dubai World Cup.

Party in the desert for Godolphin


The Godolphin team enjoyed a memorable night at Nad Al Sheba as the dominated the sixth meeting of the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival, kindly sponsored by Gulf News, when supplying four of the seven winners.

The quartet was highlighted by Desert Party who won the night’s feature, the Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas for three-year-olds over 1600m on the dirt.

Newsworthy 2000 Guineas on Thursday


Gulf News kindly sponsor Thursday’s sixth meeting of the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival with an intriguing seven race card highlighted by the Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas.

Restricted to there-year-olds, over 1600m on the dirt, the feature has attracted a field of ten with two trainers, both seeking a fourth win in the race, responsible for half the field.

Shiny guineas for Barton


Friday’s fifth meeting of the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival, sponsored by GPD Investments, featured the UAE 1000 Guineas, the first Classic of the season.

Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the 1600m dirt contest carries Listed status and was won by the Jerry Barton-trained So Shiny who made all under Mick Kinane.

Classic feature at Nad Al Sheba tomorrow


Friday’s second Dubai International Racing Carnival meeting of the weekend, kindly sponsored by GPD Investments, is highlighted by the first Classic of the season, the UAE 1000 Guineas.

Restricted to three-year-old fillies, ten have been declared for the 1600m dirt feature and trainer Saeed Bin Suroor, seeking his seventh win in the race, appears to have a very strong hand with Sos Brillante, a winner on the opening night of the Carnival, joined in the field by UAE debutante Devotee and it looks significant that Frankie Dettori chooses to partner the latter.

Al Maktoum Challenge Round II features on Thursday


Derrinstown Stud, the Irish arm of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s breeding operation, kindly sponsors the fifth meeting of the Dubai International Racing Carnival at Nad Al Sheba tomorrow when the second rounds of the Al Maktoum Challenge take centre stage.

Racing opens with the Purebred Arabian version, a Group 1 contest over 2400m, on dirt, in which Doug Watson’s Al Jalfane will bid to repeat his victory of 2007.

Saturday gallops


Saturday mornings continue to be exceptionally busy at Nad Al Sheba with trainers keen to utilise the opportunity to use the main track.

South African trainer Herman Brown’s star Jay Peg looked well under assistant trainer Terry Fripp. Ryan Moore partnered Brown’s Dubai Sheema Classic hopeful Mourilyan, while Keagan Latham was also riding out for his compatriot and was spotted on Basaltico and Desert Links.

Silver shines through the Mist


South African Champion Trainer Mike De Kock won the Group 3 Al Rashidiya for the third time when stable jockey Kevin Shea steered Silver Mist, through the mist, to win the 1777m turf feature in a driving finish.

Kindly sponsored by Dubal, the Al Rashidiya is the first grass feature of the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival and South Africa have now won four of the last six renewals after Shea took his mount to the front about 200m out.

Iron hooves to run on Thursday


The Group 3 Al Rashidiya is the feature race at the third meeting of the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival on a seven race card kindly sponsored by Dubai Aluminium Company Limited.

The 1777m highlight is the first turf feature of the season and has attracted a field of ten, with five of the runners set to represent South Africa and the remainder trained locally.
