Meydan and Emirates Airline announce landmark purchase agreement


Dubai, UAE, 21 March 2011 – Meydan Group today announced the signing of a significant purchase agreement with Emirates Airline for a new gated community of 528 townhouses called Meydan Heights. This is the first project of its kind for Meydan Group and Emirates Airline, with both parties collaborating closely to conceptualise, design and develop what will be contemporary and modern housing for their pilots based in Dubai.

Located next to the training tracks at Meydan Racecourse, Meydan Heights will be built to Emirates’ exacting standards and will feature 528 townhouses with designated areas for a private clubhouse, commercial centre and children’s playgrounds. Developed as a private gated community exclusively for the airline’s pilots, the townhouses are designed to house four ensuite bedrooms, living and dining rooms, a maid’s room and a garage for two automobiles. With its convenient location close to both the city centre and Dubai International Airport, Meydan Heights will provide a quiet and serene environment for its residents.

Bold Silvano - Bold Silvano, sadly misses the Dubai World Cup and a disappointed Mike de Kock said: "He worked well yesterday but seems to have tweaked or pulled something. We cannot actually put our finger on it immediately but it is enough to rule him out.

Likely fields for 2011 Dubai World Cup programme


Dubai, UAE, March 18, 2011 - The Dubai Racing Club is pleased to announce the likely fields for the 2011 Dubai World Cup.

All fields will be finalized at the declaration stage on Monday March 21, and barrier draws will be publicly revealed when drawn live at the Post Position Draw on Wednesday March 23.

Atop the World – Dubai World Cup Trophy presented at Burj Khalifa


The world’s richest and tallest came together recently as the gold trophy, representing the US$10 million Dubai World Cup was presented atop the Burj Khalifa’s 124th floor observation deck.

Presenting the trophy was three-time Dubai World Cup winning jockey, Frankie Detorri, and Emirates Airline Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Ahmed Khoory.

Spring Meet finale at Meydan on Saturday


Saturday's final Meydan Spring meeting and the penultimate fixture at the UAE's flagship racecourse before Dubai World Cup night three weeks later is a seven race card kindly sponsored by Zabeel Feedmill.

All seven races are on the All-Weather and for Thoroughbreds with the sixth, the Dubai Millennium (GB) handicap, the undoubted highlight and a race which would have graced Thursday's Dubai International Racing Carnival card.

Khawlah takes Oaks laurels for Bin Suroor


Al Tayer Motors were the racemeeting sponsors of Thursday's eighth meeting of the 2011 Dubai International Racing Carnival which was a memorable one for trainer Saeed bin Suroor who saddled a treble. This was highlighted by his seventh winner of the Group Three UAE Oaks, a 1900m All-Weather contest and won by Frankie Dettori on local debutante Khawlah.

Dettori was never off the pace and said: "Everything went to plan and she did that very nicely. It was a good performance and it would be nice to think she could be competitive in some good races in Europe."

Bin Suroor and De Kock both double-handed in Thursday’s UAE Oaks


Al Tayer Motors join Meydan once again at this week's 2011 Dubai International Racing Carnival meeting and the seven race, all Thoroughbred, card is highlighted by the 10th running of the UAE Oaks.

The Group Three 1900m All-Weather feature, restricted to three year old fillies, has attracted a field of seven and Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Suroor, seeking his seventh win in the race, saddles both Abtasaamah and Khawlah.

River Jetez waltzes to Balanchine triumph


Emirates NBD were the sponsors of Friday's seventh meeting of the 2011 Dubai International Racing Carnival and the featured Group Two Balanchine Stakes and concluding 2000m conditions race on the All-Weather were dominated by Mike De Kock and Christophe Soumillon.

First up was River Jetez in the featured 1800m Balanchine Stakes, a Group Two Turf contest restricted to fillies and mares. Soumillon was able to settle his mount in rear before producing her with a sweeping late challenge to deny stable companion Reem in the final 200m to the delight of De Kock who said: "We were very hopeful of a big run but another 1-2 is a great result. I am not sure where we will go with River Jetez as she has plenty of options."

Derbaas captures Fort


Thursday's sixth meeting of the 2011, kindly sponsored by Commercial Bank of Dubai, featured the Group Two Al Fahidi Fort, over 1600m on Turf, as well as the first two races of the Meydan Masters' Jockeys' Challenge.

The feature was won by Derbaas for Champion Trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe who was completing a treble on a memorable night. Richard Hills was in the saddle on the horse who was winning his fourth consecutive start at Meydan and is progressing nicely.

Classy field lays siege to Fort


The Group Two Al Fahidi Fort highlights the Commercial bank of Dubai sponsored sixth meeting of the 2011 Dubai International Racing Carnival which also features the first two legs of the Meydan Masters international Jockeys series.

The 1600m Turf contest has attracted a field of 12 with the Carnival’s leading trainer Mike De Kock looking to improve his and South Africa’s formidable record in the race. De Kock has won the race three times, while his homeland have supplied six of the last eight winners.

World’s best jockeys converge at Meydan


It is the eagerly awaited second Meydan Masters jockeys' challenge this weekend with 12 of the world's best jockeys set to grace Meydan in three handicaps, two on All-Weather on Thursday and a Turf one on Friday.

Their mounts were decided by ballot and a stellar cast has again been attracted.

Interest levels set to rise at CBD-sponsored racemeeting at Meydan


Dubai, UAE, February 15, 2011 – The Commercial Bank of Dubai lends their backing to Meydan Racecourse by sponsoring their next racemeeting on February 17th, the first of double-header weekend.

Thursday’s racemeeting is the sixth in the 2011 Dubai International Racing Carnival and will feature seven races, two of which make up the first part of the annual Meydan Masters international jockey’s challenge.
