PHILLY ACE GAME WINNER OF SUNDAY FEATURE AT MONMOUTH
Oceanport, N.J. – Brushwood Stable’s Philly Ace rallied three wide around the far turn and held off the late challenge of Play It Straight to capture the $44,000 allowance/optional claiming feature by a half-length at Monmouth Park on Sunday afternoon.
Ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, Philly Ace covered the mile over firm turf in 1:34 1/5 and returned $7.40, $4.80 and $3. Play It Straight completed the $32.80 exacta and paid $4.20 and $2.80. It was another half-length back to Admiral Perry, who paid $2.80 to show.

GET SERIOUS MAY HAVE HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE IN ELKWOOD
There are horses for courses and Get Serious has certainly proved that the grass at Monmouth Park suits him just fine. The eight-year-old gelding, who is owned by James Dinan and Phantom House Farm, will be making his first start in eight months in Saturday’s featured event, the $75,000 Elkwood Stakes to be run at one mile over the turf course.
“The race has come up very tough,” said John Forbes, who conditions Get Serious. “There are some very nice horses in there.”

PRESIOUS PASSION AMONG 11 ENTERED IN $75,000 ELKWOOD STAKES
Presious Passion, a close second in the Breeders’ Cup Turf in 2009, is among the 11 talented turf specialists entered for Saturday’s featured event, the $75,000 Elkwood Stakes, which will be run at one mile over the turf course. Patricia Generazio’s nine-year-old gelded son of Royal Anthem has won $2,639,452 and made 46 career starts but hasn’t found the winner’s circle since February 28, 2010.
“He’s doing quite well, training well and he seems to still like racing. He’s sound and he doesn’t have a pimple on him.” trainer Mary Hartmann said.

CAL NATION TAKES SUNDAY FEATURE AT MONMOUTH PARK
OCEANPORT, N.J. – WinStar Farm LLC’s Cal Nation broke slowly, came with a three-wide run and ran down Glickman in the final strides to post a neck victory in the $44,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Cal Nation covered the six furlongs in 1:10 2/5 and returned $3.60 and $2.20. Glickman completed the $6.20 exacta and paid $2.40 to place. Deliburnsky checked in third with Yo Koffy rounding out the quartet in the Sunday feature.

MONMOUTH PARK OPENS 2012 SEASON WITH INCREASES IN GATE, BETTING; ELVIS TRUJILLO WINS FOUR RACES
OCEANPORT, N.J. – Blue skies and balmy temperatures greeted the new era at Monmouth Park Saturday, as the track opened its 67th season of Thoroughbred racing with increases in attendance and wagering over last year.
This was the first day of racing under the auspices of Darby Development LLC, which manages the racetrack for the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association. The NJTHA negotiated a five-year lease from the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority to operate Monmouth Park.

WILDCAT BRIEF STARTS HIS YEAR IN SATURDAY’S DECATHLON
The feature on Monmouth Park’s opening day program Saturday is the $75,000 Decathlon Stakes, first of 57 stakes races to be run during the 65-day meeting that runs through Oct. 7.
During the meet, Monmouth will offer 17 graded stakes races, topped by the $1 million Haskell Invitational (G1) to be run on July 29. The first graded stakes of the meet is the $100,000 Violet (G3), a turf event to be renewed on May 28.

MEADOWLANDS TO OFFER THOROUGHBRED TURF RACING MAY 4-5
OCEANPORT, N.J. – As a prelude to the May 12 opening of the 2012 racing season at Monmouth Park, two days of Thoroughbred turf racing will be conducted at the Meadowlands on Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5.
Four races on the Meadowlands grass course will be run each day, with the first race going off at 3:30 p.m. The second event will be run at 4 p.m., the third at 4:30 and the fourth and final race each day will go at 5 p.m.

HORSES ARRIVE FOR 2012 MONMOUTH PARK MEET
OCEANPORT, N.J. – In the early hours of Friday morning, a van carrying the horses of trainer John Mazza rolled through the Monmouth Park stable gate, officially kicking off the training season for the 2012 season.
“It’s always great to be back at Monmouth,” said Mazza, who’s been coming to the Oceanport racetrack since 1948. “I’ll have about a dozen horses this season, a good mix of babies and proven runners.”

HASKELL INVITATIONAL LEADS $6 MILLION STAKES SCHEDULE FOR 2012 RACING SEASON
Oceanport, N.J. – Led by the $1 million Haskell Invitational on July 29, Monmouth Park has announced a total stakes schedule of $6 million, including 17 graded events for the 2012 racing season.
Among the notable changes to the calendar are the return of the Eatontown Stakes (G3) on June 30, the Red Bank Stakes (G3) on July 4 and the Monmouth Cup (G2) on July 7. Another significant change is the placement of the Molly Pitcher Stakes (G2), which will now be run on Haskell Day.

LIVE RACING RETURNS TO MONMOUTH PARK ON MAY 12;
Oceanport, N.J. – Live racing will return to Monmouth Park on Saturday, May 12, it was announced today by the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (NJTHA). With a lease from the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority (NJSEA) to the NJTHA expected in early May, the latter will take the operational helm at the historic racetrack for this year’s 67th season of racing.
The 2012 calendar will feature 65 days at Monmouth Park and 10 all-turf days at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford. The Monmouth calendar closely mirrors the 2010 and 2011 schedules, with one notable change: four twilight cards on Thursdays in August, with a first post of 4:00 pm.

WARDELLE CAPTURES CLOSING DAY FEATURE AT MONMOUTH PARK
OCEANPORT, N.J. – Five After Five Stable’s Wardelle launched a four-wide rally around the far turn and pulled clear of Taylors Irish and Catreign in the stretch en route to a two-length score in the closing day feature Sunday at Monmouth Park.
Ridden by Victor Santiago and trained by Henry Carroll, Wardelle covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:11 and paid $3.20, $2.60 and $2.10 as the odds-on favorite in the field of six fillies and mares. Taylors Irish battled gamely to hold on for second – completing an $11.20 exacta and returning $3.40 and $2.20. Catreign finished a nose behind in third and returned $3 to show.

MS GLORY BE RALLIES TO TAKE SATURDAY FEATURE AT MONMOUTH
OCEANPORT, N.J. – Raymar Stables LLC’s Ms Glory Be launched a three-wide run around the far turn and collared pacesetter My Sweet Emily inside the eighth pole en route to capturing the Saturday feature by two lengths at Monmouth Park.
Ridden by Chris DeCarlo for trainer Gregg Sacco, Ms Glory Be covered the one mile and a sixteenth in 1:45 1/5 and paid $4.40, $3 and $2.20 as the 6-5 favorite in the field of six fillies and mares. My Sweet Emily completed the $12.80 exacta and returned $3.60 and $2.40. It was another 3 ¼ lengths back to Dixie Dear who returned $3.80 to show.
