October 24, 2018, Ken Weingartner, USTA Media Relations Manager
For the Breeders Crown

As soon-to-be-retired trainer Jimmy Takter prepares for his final Breeders Crown appearance Saturday at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, he is focused on his horses in the hopes of adding to his astounding accomplishments in the series, which in recent years has become his playground.

“I enjoy big races,” said the 58-year-old Takter, who has won at least three Breeders Crown trophies in each of the past six years and at least one in each of the past eight. “It’s a challenge to me. This week is very important. We have to come up with some good ideas, look at where we are and make sure no stone is unturned.”

Takter has 14 horses in the Breeders Crown finals. All 12 championships, with $6.4 million in total purses, will be raced Saturday at Pocono. Post time is 5:30 p.m. (EDT) for the first race.

Eleven former Breeders Crown champions in Saturday eliminations

Tuesday, October 16, 2018 - from the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown

Cranbury, NJ
--- Been there, done that. It could be the slogan for Saturday’s (Oct. 20) Breeders Crown eliminations for 3-year-olds and older horses at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Eleven former Breeders Crown champions will be in action Saturday, led by two-time winners Hannelore Hanover, Ariana G, and Pure Country. A 12th former champ -- McWicked, who claimed his trophy at age 3 in 2014 -- will advance directly to the Open Pace final because eliminations were unnecessary. Another winner from 2014, Pinkman, who was 2 when he captured his Crown, also is back for another try in the Open Trot.

Completing the list of former champions are Broadway Donna, Call Me Queen Be, Emoticon Hanover, Fiftydallarbill, Manchego, Stay Hungry, and Youaremycandygirl

ARCI TO CALL FOR REGULATION OF BREEDING AND SALES.

DRUG MONEY LAUNDERING AND EQUINE WELFARE CONCERNS PROMPT ARCI TO CALL FOR REGULATION OF BREEDING AND SALES.

Citing the widespread use of drugs on yearlings and two years olds that may result in improper bone development and the recent use of horse auctions to launder money for the drug cartel, the Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI) is formally calling for the independent regulation of the breeding and sales industries.

“These significant portions of the racing industry are totally unregulated,” said ARCI Chair Jeff Colliton. “If we care about our horses and the integrity of the sport, the racing industry can no longer turn a blind eye to the need to address this shortcoming.”
