Foxwoods Champagne (G1) quotes

Todd Pletcher, winning trainer of Havana (No. 3): "Anytime you go from 5 ½ [furlongs] to a mile and do it against the type of horses he was in with today, it's always a concern. We did a similar thing with Uncle Mo, the difference being that was six [furlongs] to a mile. I think it takes a pretty special horse to do it. I'm proud of his efforts today. We knew we were asking him a lot, but we were doing it because we liked him a lot."

Frizette (G1) quotes

Mike Hushion, winning trainer of Artemis Agrotera (No. 2): "I said [to jockey Jose Lezcano], 'Be careful she just doesn't run off the first part of it.' If he tapped her once on the shoulder, she'd be gone, and he didn't."

Jamaica Handicap (G1) quotes

Malcom Pierce, winning trainer of Up With the Birds (No. 11): "[Jockey] Cornelio [Velasquez] did a fantastic job to save ground around the first turn. I was a little worried that they were going a little too slow up front, and we were eight or nine lengths out of it, but he's a nice horse and he kicked when he asked him. You've got to give the jock a lot of credit and the horse a lot of credit."

SANTA ANITA SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

MIKE SMITH, POINTS OFFTHEBENCH, WINNER: “I thought he could win today. Thinking it and doing it are two different things, but I did think it. All we had left was to do it. He’s very talented. Maldonado (on Distinctiv Passion) looked like he was getting away from us and I wanted to try and time it with this horse because if you hit the front too soon, he pulls up a little. Then I looked up and he was going a whole lot easier than he was supposed to be. He has some turn of foot, and I hit the front too soon, but he still held on. He pulled up nice and happy, well within himself. He’s a very talented horse.”

L.A.WOMAN STAKES QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

VICTOR ESPINOZA, TEDDY’S PROMISE, WINNER: “It was nice and easy today. I didn’t want to push or anything since the race (Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on Nov.2) is less than a month away. I want to win but I don’t want to hurt her, she’s a filly, so she’s more sensitive. Everything worked out well and it was a good race.”

CITY OF HOPE MILE STAKES QUOTES

JOCKEY QUOTES

MIKE SMITH, NO JET LAG, WINNER: “I have a lot of respect for Simon (Callaghan). In the paddock he told me it wouldn’t surprise him one bit if this horse won, to trust him. That’s all he had to say. I have the utmost respect for him and his opinion, so when he said that I knew I was live. I guess he got off a little slow last race, but he broke OK today. Actually, he was pretty aggressive the first part of the race but I just jammed him in behind, European style, like he’s used to and that turned out good enough.

Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) Quotes

Dale Romans (winning trainer of Silver Max)

On Silver Max’s improved form in the past year

“He had management issues. I threw him to the wolves probably a little quicker than I should have, but we backed up and regrouped and he’s strong this fall. We had a tired horse last fall – this fall we’re just peaking.”
