TALE OF PEACE DIGS DOWN FOR SUNDAY SCORE


Oceanport, N.J. – Hardacre Farm LLC’s Tale of Peace held off all challengers to capture the $32,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday by a neck.

Ridden by Chris DeCarlo, Tale of Peace, took the lead around the first turn, was overtaken on the backstretch, retook command turning for home and then held off the late charge of Falbala to stop the timer in 1:42 flat for a mile and 70 yards over a fast main track. The winner returned $7.20, $3.40 and $2.80 and topped the $31.60 exacta. Falbala paid $4 and $3.60. It was 3 ¾ lengths back to Carolina Princess, who paid $6.80 to show.

CALL FIRST DOMINATES SATURDAY FEATURE AT MONMOUTH


Oceanport, N.J. – Mat Stables LLC’s Call First moved quickly to the lead around the far turn and opened up his advantage through the stretch to post a 4 ½ length score in the $32,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Trained by Patricia Farro, Call First covered the mile and 70 yards over a fast main track in 1:42.29 and returned $7, $2.80 and $2.40. Kid Sidney, the favorite in the field of seven geldings, completed the $18 exacta and paid $2.60 and $2.40. It was another head back to Nebikon, who paid $4 to show.

CALL FIRST CAN ANSWER THE BELL ON SATURDAY

The first time that Call First showed up in the Monmouth Park entries this year, he ran with a $20,000 claiming tag. It was the classic Catch-22 scenario for trainer Patricia Farro and her husband, Mike, who is her assistant.

They wanted the beautifully bred 4-year-old son of AP Indy out of the Storm Cat mare Connie Belle, but they couldn’t have him.

AFLEETING LADY MUCH THE BEST IN MONDAY’S LADY’S SECRET


Oceanport, N.J. – M. Lauffer and W.D. Cubbedge’s Afleeting Lady took command around the far turn before opening up in the lane and posting a 4 ½-length victory in the $75,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park on Monday.

Trained by Dale Romans, Afleeting Lady covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:43 4/5 returning $6, $3.80 and $2.60. Daddy’s Honor completed the $35.80 exacta and paid $8 and $4. It was another half-length back to Successful Song, the favorite in the field of seven 3-year-old fillies, who paid $2.40 to show.

BRAVE DAVE COURAGEOUSLY TAKES GRADE 3 SAPLING STAKES; DOUBLED WINS THE SORORITY STAKES


Oceanport, N.J. – In Monmouth Park’s two premier events for juveniles, Brave Dave overcame a bad stumble out of the gate to capture the Grade 3 $100,000 Sapling Stakes and Doubled closed strongly up the rail to take the $100,000 Sorority Stakes before a crowd 15,424 on Sunday.

Brave Dave, the 8-5 favorite in the field of six 2-year-old colts, stayed on his feet and then made every pole a winning one as he traveled six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10 2/5 and returned $5.40, $3.20 and $2.20. Special Jo finished three-quarters of a length behind and paid $5.40 and $3 and completed the $23 exacta. It was another four-and-a-half lengths back to Drum Roll, who paid $2.20 to show.

SUCCESSFUL SONG SEEKING SECOND STAKES WIN OF THE MEET

When she last raced at Monmouth Park, she was sent off at odds just shy of 20-1. There is little doubt that her backers will not get anywhere close to that generous price when Successful Song breaks out of the gate in Monday’s Lady’s Secret Stakes.

The 5-year-old daughter of Successful Appeal out of the Sultry Song mare Song for Annie finished a very solid second last time in the Grade 2 $200,000 Molly Pitcher Stakes and now she drops down in class to face easier company with a $75,000 purse at stakes.

TUNE ME IN TAKES GRADE 3 CLIFF HANGER, LOPEZ SWEEPS STAKES


Oceanport, N.J. – Patricia Generazio’s Tune Me In gave jockey Paco Lopez a stakes sweep at Monmouth Park on Saturday, capturing the Grade 3 $100,000 Cliff Hanger Stakes as Say a Novena battled back on the inside to capture the $60,000 Miss Woodford Stakes before a crowd 11,120.

Tune Me In battled with Get Serious through six furlongs in 1:10 3/5 before asserting himself at the quarter pole and holding off the late charge of Salto. Winning his second Monmouth graded stakes in a row, Tune Me In paid $15.40, $5.20 and $2.20 and topped the $53.40 exacta. He covered the flat mile on firm turf in 1:33.96. Salto, who finished a length behind the winner, returned $3.40 and $2.20 as the 6-5 favorite in the field of five colts and geldings. It was another head back to Get Serious, who paid $2.40 to show.

DAVID NUNN HOPES TO SADDLE FIRST STAKES WINNER AT HOME

When Withgreatpleasure held off a late challenge to prevail by a head in the $60,000 Unbridled Belle Stakes at Delaware Park three weeks ago, she delighted her owner and trainer with the first stakes wins of their careers. On Labor Day, the 4-year-old filly has the chance to take them over the moon with their second stakes victory and first at their home base of Monmouth Park.

Withgreatpleasure will have a big cheering section on hand when she runs in the $75,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes on Monday.

“I had this race picked out at the beginning of the summer for her and to win it right here at home would be amazing,” said trainer David Nunn. “This would be the one race that the owners and I would appreciate the most.”

MINESAVE DETERMINED WINNER OF FRIDAY FEATURE


Oceanport, N.J. – Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch’s Minesave battled early with Freud’s Notebook before putting away that foe in the stretch and holding on for a 2 ½ length score in the $44,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday.

Trained by Bret Calhoun, Minesave stepped the mile over a fast main track in 1:39 1/5 and paid $9.60 and $4. Freud’s Notebook held the place, completing the $25.20 exacta and paying $2.60 to place. There was no show wagering on the race that scratched down to four runners, with T.M.’s Treasure checking in a nose back in third followed by Go Go Lolo.

GET SERIOUS READY FOR SATURDAY’S GRADE 3 CLIFFHANGER

He may be the one of the fans’ favorite horses on the Monmouth Park grounds and his connections think that Get Serious will give them a seriously good run for their money in Saturday’s Grade 3 $100,000 Cliffhanger Stakes.

The 8-year-old gelded son of City Zip out of the Java Gold mare Java Gal loves both the Monmouth turf course and the one-mile distance of the race. In a career that has seen him win 14 of 38 starts and earn $1,113,091, eight of Get Serious’s victories have come in stakes races here and five of those have been grade 3 affairs.

CLOSING RANGE SPARKLES IN TWIN LIGHTS STAKES


Oceanport, N.J. – St. George Farm Racing’s Closing Range dug in through the lane and prevailed in a stretch duel with Zucchini Flower to capture the $60,000 Twin Lights Stakes on Sunday at Monmouth Park by a nose.

Trained by Phil Oliver, Closing Range set the pace with Zucchini Flower close behind as she covered the mile and one eighth over firm turf in 1:49.84. The winner returned $11.40, $5.40 and $2.60 and topped the $55.40 exacta. Zucchini Flower paid $5.40 and $2.20 and finished one-half length in front of Dancing Solo, the 1-2 favorite in the field of six 3-year-old fillies, who paid $2.10 to show.

Twilight racing returns this Thursday for the third of four twilight programs this summer.

In addition, a special happy hour with live entertainment from The Larry Stevens Band, will take place at the Lady’s Secret Café as $3 Miller Lite and $4 well drink specials flow from 7 to 9 p.m.
