FAVORED SISTER DAWN WIRES SIX OPPONENTS ON TURF


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2010)—Sister Dawn established the lead immediately and went on to a 1 ¼ length victory in the $44,800 feature Thursday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

Despite the win by the odds-on favorite in the next-to-last leg of the Pick Six, there will be a carryover of $54,223 when racing resumes Friday. Post time is 1 p.m. The Pick Six will begin in the third race.

HAIMISH HY READY FOR OAK TREE DERBY

Trainer Art Sherman has sentimental reasons rooting for Haimish Hy in the $150,000 Oak Tree Derby at Hollywood Park Saturday.

“He’s named for my deceased brother-in-law, Hyman Pearl,” said Sherman from trackside Thursday. “My niece (Pearl’s daughter) named him. ‘Haimish’ is a Jewish word for a good person.”

HAROLD C. RAMSER, SR. HANDICAP DRAWS FULL FIELD


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 14, 2010)—It Tiz, who is perfect over the Hollywood Park turf course, is among a dozen 3-year-old fillies scheduled to run in the $100,000 Harold C. Ramser, Sr. Handicap Sunday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

The Ramser, which will be run for the 24th time, is a Grade III at one mile. It is the eighth of nine races. Post time is 1 p.m.

UNDEFEATED ZENYATTA WORKS FIVE FURLONGS IN 1:02 3/5


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2010)—Zenyatta, who has won all 19 of her starts, worked five furlongs in 1:02 3/5 Thursday morning over the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park.

The drill, which occurred with stablemate El Vino, was the first for the brilliant 6-year-old mare since her third consecutive victory in the Lady’s Secret Stakes on Oct. 2 during opening weekend of the inaugural Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meet.

KID EDWARD, SEVEN OTHERS SET FOR $150,000 OAK TREE DERBY SATURDAY


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 13, 2010)—Kid Edward will try to help trainer Jim Cassidy achieve a first in the $150,000 Oak Tree Derby Saturday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

No trainer has ever won the race – which had its first running in 1969 and was called the Volante Handicap prior to 1997 - two times in a row. Cassidy can accomplish the feat in the 41st running after winning with The Usual Q.T. in 2009.

QUICK ENOUGH, VALENZUELA TEAM FOR MORVICH WIN


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 11, 2010)—Quick Enough gave jockey Patrick Valenzuela his first Oak Tree stakes win in nearly four years with a 1 ½-length score in the $100,000 Morvich Handicap Monday at Hollywood Park.

Claimed for $40,000 on Aug. 5 at Del Mar, the 6-year-old could be headed to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs.

BURG BERG WEARS DOWN BRIECAT IN SWINGTIME


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 10, 2010)—Burg Berg wore down pacesetter Briecat to win the $59,190 Swingtime Stakes Sunday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

The 4-year-old filly was the lone favorite to win in the Pick Six, so there is a carryover of $82,055 into Monday. Post time for the special Columbus Day card is 1 p.m. The Pick Six begins in the fourth race.

FRENCH IMPORT BLUE PANIS ARRIVES FOR OAK TREE DERBY

French invader Blue Panis, winner of the Prix de Tourgeville at Deauville in August, arrived in the Leonard Powell stable at Hollywood Park Sunday after clearing quarantine for the $150,000 Oak Tree Derby Saturday.. The Grade II test is at 1 1/8 miles on turf.

Joe Talamo will ride the colt for trainer Fabrice Chappet, who is expected to arrive Tuesday. The colt will be transferred to Powell after the race.

SMILING TIGER HOLDS SUPREME SUMMIT IN ANCIENT TITLE


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 9, 2010)—Smiling Tiger became the second 3-year-old in four years to win the $245,000 Ancient Title Stakes, holding off Supreme Summit to win the Grade I Saturday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

Earlier in the afternoon, Liberian Freighter took advantage of a gorgeous trip to score the biggest surprise in the history of the $150,000 Oak Tree Mile, winning by a nose over Colgan’s Chip.

FOREVER TOGETHER AMONG NINE LATE `FESTIVAL NOMS


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 9, 2010)—Multiple graded stakes winner Forever Together and Hibaayeb, who won the Yellow Ribbon in her U.S. debut on Oct. 2, were among nine late nominations for Hollywood Park’s upcoming Turf Festival.

A fixture at the annual Autumn meet, the Turf Festival will be run over three days (Nov. 26-28) and include five graded stakes worth a combined $950,000.

RYEHILL DREAMER COMPLETES FOUR WIN NIGHT FOR ROSARIO


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 8, 2010)—Ryehill Dreamer led throughout to win a $44,400 optional claimer, giving jockey Joel Rosario his fourth win of the Friday night program at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

Making his first start since finishing third in the San Rafael Stakes on Jan. 17, 209 at Santa Anita, the 4-year-old Catcher In The Rye gelding out of the Rainbows for Life mare No Way was never seriously menaced in only his second race in the United States.

SCENIC BLAST SEEKS FIRST U.S. VICTORY IN $100,000 MORVICH HANDICAP


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 8, 2010)—Scenic Blast, a Group I winner on two continents, will seek his first victory in the United States in the $100,000 Morvich Handicap Monday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

A Grade III at six furlongs on turf, the Morvich is a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In’’ Challenge race. The winner earns a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, which will be run Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs.
