INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 7, 2010)—Ruffled Feathers, a California bred who has not been off the board in five starts on the Hollywood Park turf course, is among five fillies and mares entered in the $55,000-added Swingtime Stakes Sunday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

Owned by a partnership that includes Steven Lavino and Michael Riordan and trained by Paddy Gallagher, the 4-year-old daughter of Include out of the Awesome Again mare Diane Again has won four of 16 and earned $224,058.

SARAH’S SECRET STAYS UNDEFEATED IN THURSDAY FEATURE


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 7, 2010)—Sarah’s Secret made it two wins in as many starts, surprising heavily-favored Tales in Excess in a $41,360 allowance Thursday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

Owned by breeder Joan Hadley Thoroughbreds and trained by Kathy Walsh, the 2-year-old daughter of Leroidesanimaux and the Luhuk mare Sarasota angled off the inside in the stretch and ran past the pacesetter, who was 3-10, in the final yards.

SCENIC BLAST READY FOR MORVICH

Trainer John Shirreffs was asked about a horse other than Zenyatta at Hollywood Park on Thursday.

“We’re going to try the Morvich with Scenic Blast,” said Shirreffs from the stable kitchen porch overlooking the backside in reference to the Australian 2009 Horse of the Year being readied for the $100,000 Grade III test at six furlongs on turf Monday.

OAK TREE/HOLLYWOOD PARK GRANTED MAKEUP DAY (OCT. 27)


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Oct. 7, 2010)—To make up for the day of racing lost to heavy rain on Oct. 6, Oak Tree/Hollywood Park will race on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

The California Horse Racing Board granted the Oak Tree Racing Association’s petition for the program, which will begin the final week of the inaugural Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meet.

SIDNEY’S CANDY VERSUS SIX IN OAK TREE MILE


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 6, 2010)—Sidney’s Candy, who set a course record when winning the La Jolla Handicap on Aug. 14 at Del Mar, will make his first start on the turf at Hollywood Park in the $150,000 Oak Tree Mile Saturday.

The Mile, which attracted six other entrants, is one of two Breeders” Cup “Win and You’re In’’ Challenge races on the Saturday card at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

RIGOLETTA SHOCKS TELL A KELLY IN OAK LEAF


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 3, 2010)—Running beyond seven furlongs for the first time, Rigoletta, a 32-1 shot, turned the tables on favored Tell a Kelly to win the $250,000 Oak Leaf Stakes Sunday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

The Oak Leaf was the first of two Grade I’s that wrapped up the first week of the inaugural Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meet.

ZENYATTA FANS FLOURISH IN SHIRREFFS BARN

Zenyatta continues to be the hottest item in the racing world. The 6-year-old mare posed for 90 minutes of photos outside Barn 55 South at Hollywood Park Sunday morning, while trainer John Shirreffs fielded media interviews and racing manager Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs hosted a flock of adoring fans.

Less than 24 hours earlier, unbeaten Zenyatta attracted 25,837 screaming fans--the most at Hollywood Park in more than nine years--to witness her journey into immortality with her 19th straight victory in the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes and the top spot on the female career earnings list with $6,404,580.

19 IN A ROW FOR ZENYATTA AFTER LADY’S SECRET THRILLER


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 2, 2010)—Making her final start in Southern California at the place where she has been stabled throughout her brilliant career, Zenyatta remained undefeated with a thrilling victory in the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes Saturday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park. The race was one of four Grade I events on the card.

Before an extremely enthusiastic crowd of 25,837, the 6-year-old daughter of Street Cry and the Kris S. mare Vertigineux won for the 19th time – matching the streak of Peppers Pride, who earned her wins in races restricted to New Mexico breds – with a strong rally to defeat 4-1 second choice Switch by a half-length.

UNZIP ME CONTINUES TO ROLL, WINS OPENING NIGHT MADDY


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 30, 2010)—Leading virtually throughout, favored Unzip Me prevailed in the $100,000 Sen. Ken Maddy Handicap Thursday on opening night of the inaugural Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meet.

Trained by Marty Jones for owner-breeder John Harris and Don Valpredo and Per Antonsen, the 4-year-old City Zip filly out of the Arazi mare Escape With Me her third Grade III victory of the year.

TELL A KELLY STRETCHES OUT IN OAK LEAF; BOURBON BAY TO FACE SEVEN IN HIRSCH


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 30, 2010)—The Grade I events continue Sunday at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park with a pair of $250,000 stakes races.

Tell a Kelly, an impressive winner of the Darley Debutante on Sept. 4, will face six other 2-year-old fillies – all of whom are looking for their first graded stakes victory – in the Oak Leaf.

Run at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track, the Oak Leaf is one of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In’’ races. The winner will earn a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies division.

ZENYATTA READIES FOR LAST CALIFORNIA “DANCE”

Barn 55 South at Hollywood Park was so quiet Thursday morning that somebody might not have guessed that unbeaten superstar Zenyatta was preparing for her California finale in the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes Saturday.

Hot walker Carmen Zamora walked the 6-year-old mare around the stable after she galloped on the main track under exercise rider Steve Willard to the satisfaction of trainer John Shirreffs. Groom Mario Espinoza freshened her stall.

FIVE RIVALS READY FOR ZENYATTA IN LADY’S SECRET

Unbeaten superstar Zenyatta galloped on the main track at Hollywood Park Wednesday morning to the satisfaction of trainer John Shirreffs and was entered to face five foes in the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes, Presented by TVG, Saturday, one of six Grade 1 stakes during Breeders’ Cup Challenge weekend.

Zenyatta seeks to stretch her unbeaten streak to 19 in the Lady’s Secret, highlight of opening weekend of the Oak Tree Racing Association meet, which opens at Hollywood Park Thursday night for the first time in its 41-year history.
