Wood Memorial presented by NYRA Bets (G2) Quotes

Graham Motion, winning trainer of Irish War Cry (No. 7): "I think it's so good that Rajiv [Maragh] came to the barn and has been on him the last few mornings to see how he is. He's not a difficult horse. He's not a rank horse; he's a very classy horse. We both thought it was a good idea for Rajiv to get on him in the mornings. I thought he won pretty comfortably and it doesn't seem like distance [1 ¼ miles] of the Derby will be an issue.

Quotes for the $1 Million Toyota Blue Grass (G2)

J. Paul Reddam (whose Reddam Racing is owner of 31-1 longshot winner Irap. He and trainer Doug O’Neill watched the race from Santa Anita.)
“(When the horses were coming down the stretch) We thought, ‘Oh this is looking good’ and then in the stretch when we saw he actually had a chance, we all just started yelling and screaming. It seemed like the wire was taking forever to get there. When he made the lead I thought that son of a gun is going to hit the board here. Then, about the eighth pole I was thinking man we have a chance to win here because McCraken had backed out of it and a couple other horses didn’t fire for whatever reason. I really have got to say (trainer) Doug (O’Neill) did a fantastic job – he and his team. It’s just fantastic feeling when you don’t think you are going to (win).”

$1 million Florida Derby (G1)

Post Position Draw Quotes

Trainer Antonio Sano (Gunnevera, Post 11, 9-5): “No problem. If my horse had speed, it would be a problem, but horse will be in back, so no problem. From the outside post, [Jockey Javier] Castellano can make his way to the inside and then make his run.”

Trainer Jose Pinchin (Three Rules, Post 10, 8-1): “I would have preferred an inside draw, but it is what it is. You have no control over it. [Three Rules] is by far the fastest horse in the race, but you don’t want to burn [him] — you just want to break and get a good position. It’s up to the rider, totally, I’m not even giving [Luis Saez] instructions. He will have to do what he has to do.”
