– The 65th running of the Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park April 2 will offer a $1 million incentive above and beyond the $1 million purse up for grabs in the major prep for the Triple Crown.

Horses that went through the ring at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Sale of selected 2-year-olds in training at Gulfstream last March are eligible to earn a $1 million bonus by winning this year’s Florida Derby. The bonus was announced before the prestigious sale that was held at Gulfstream March 4.

GUN RUNNER READY FOR RISEN STAR

Winchell Thoroughbreds and Three Chimneys Farm’s Gun Runner completed his final serious work before Saturday’s Grade II $400,000 Veterans Ford Risen Star Stakes on Monday morning, negotiating a half-mile in 50.40 under exercise rider Carlos Rosas. The Steve Asmussen trainee figures to be one of the favorites in the 1 1/16-miles event on the merits of his game fourth-place finish last out in the Grade II $200,000 Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill Downs on Nov. 28 and a sharp allowance victory at Keeneland in October – both at the Risen Star trip.

First Graded Stakes Win Spoils Dirt Debut of Favored Sandiva

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL
– Godolphin Racing’s Penwith continued to reward her connections for their patience by turning away even-money favorite Sandiva and earn her first graded stakes victory in Saturday’s $200,000 Royal Delta (G2) at Gulfstream Park.

It was the second straight win for the 5-year-old Bernardini mare since returning from nearly a year between races to capture a one-mile optional claiming allowance Jan. 21 at Gulfstream for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin.

Live racing at Aqueduct now scheduled for February 18, 2016


OZONE PARK, N.Y. - The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today announced the addition of one live racing date to the current Aqueduct winter meet. Live racing is now scheduled for Thursday, February 18.

This day is being added as a result of this past weekend's live racing cancellations due to extreme weather conditions. Thursday's card will be composed of entries redrawn from overnight races originally intended from Saturday and Sunday's cancelled cards.

– A total of 270 horses were nominated to 12 starter stakes worth $680,000 in purses that will comprise a special Presidents Day holiday card Monday Feb. 15 at Gulfstream Park.

The $60,000 Old Man Eloquent for 4-year-olds and up that have started for a claiming price of $35,000 or less going 1 1/16 miles on turf had the most nominations with 40, led by Grade 3 winner Quiet Force, two-time defending Sunshine Millions Turf winner Manchurian High, and stakes winners Golden Rifle, Key to Power, Rizwan and Sayler’s Creek.

– There was no unique winner of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 on Friday, leaving a jackpot carryover of $508,090.75 for Saturday’s stakes-filled 13-race program, highlighted by the 58th running of the $500,000 Donn Handicap (G1).

Since it was last hit for $76,799.38 by one lucky bettor on Jan. 13, the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for 17 consecutive programs. The largest payout of the current Championship Meet was $262,634.84 on Jan. 7.
