Starfish Bay Survives Duel In The Very One Stakes.


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Gainesway Stable’s Starfish Bay set a pressured pace before holding off a determined late charge by Suzzona to capture the $70,000 The Very One Stakes, contested over the Pimlico turf course.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, who will saddle Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver for Saturday’s 135th Preakness Stakes at Old Hilltop, the 4-5 favorite completed five furlongs in 56.56 seconds under John Velazquez.

With Purpose Romps In Kattegat’s Pride Starter Handicap


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Peter Kazamias’ With Purpose rallied three wide around the far turn and came home a driving winner in the $25,000 Kattegat’s Pride Starter Handicap, the first of seven added-money races on Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan program at Pimlico.

Eibar Coa brought the 4-year-old daughter of Rock Slide back to the winner’s circle after completing the 1-1/16th -mile distance in 1:47.42 over the fast main track. With Purpose finished a length clear of Swear Allegiance, who was another half-length ahead of Frock’s Valley Girl. The race was restricted to 3-year-olds-and-up who had started for a claiming price of $7,500 or less in 2009-2010. With Purpose has now won two of three starter allowance races this year.

Pimlico Today-Black-Eyed Susan Tops May 14 Card


BALTIMORE, 05-10-10---Two fillies who have hooked up before top the field for the 86th running of the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, the headliner on a 13-race program Friday at Pimlico Race Course.

The card also features six additional stakes races, the second annual jockey challenge and a six-furlong event entitled Legend's For The Cure, an eight-starter field restricted to retired female jockeys.

Kentucky Derby Winner Super Saver Expected To Arrive At Pimlico May 12


BALTIMORE, 05-02-10---The eyes of the racing world shift from Churchill Downs to Pimlico Race Course as the Triple Crown players set their sights on Baltimore for the 135th running of the Preakness® Stakes on Saturday, May 15.

This morning winning trainer Todd Pletcher informed Pimlico officials, including track president Tom Chuckas, that Super Saver will stay in Kentucky to prepare for the Preakness and will arrive at Pimlico next Wednesday, May 12, the day of the Post Position Draw. Per tradition, Chuckas called Pletcher to congratulate him on Super Saver’s victory and to personally invite him to the Preakness.

BANK THE EIGHT NIPS REGAL WARRIOR IN TESIO STAKES


BALTIMORE, 05-01-10---Mercedes Stables LLC’s Bank the Eight nipped Regal Warrior at the finish line to win the $70,000 Federico Tesio Stakes for 3-year-olds at Pimlico Race Course.

Sent to post as the 4-5 favorite under jockey Mario Pino, the son of Distorted Humor was caught up in the three-horse stretch duel with Regal Warrior and Noah’s Dream and appeared beaten before surging back on Regal Warrior to win by a nose in 1:52.11 for the nine-furlong distance.

EVENLY MATCHED THREE-YEAR OLDS SET FOR SATURDAY’S TESIO STAKES


BALTIMORE, 04-29-10---Three trainers who have had runners finish in the money in the Preakness Stakes in recent years will saddle three-year-olds in the Federico Tesio Stakes this Saturday at Pimlico Race Course. The Tesio has catapulted such runners as Deputed Testamony, Oliver’s Twist and Magic Weisner to Preakness stardom in its 29 previous runnings.

Mike Trombetta (2006 Preakness runner-up Sweetnorthernsaint), Graham Motion (Icabad Crane-third in the 2008 Preakness after winning the Tesio) and Derek Ryan (Musket Man third last year) will start runners in Saturday’s headliner.

DALE CAPUANO SHOWCASING PIMLICO DOMINANCE


BALTIMORE, 04-24-10---Trainer Dale Capuano has saddled four sprint winners this week, taking three races on the turf and one on the main track. The 47-year-old sits atop the Pimlico training standings with five winners from 10 starters after five live racing days of the spring meeting.

Capuano’s strong showing started on Thursday when Daily Candy ($13.80) beat allowance runners on the grass. Naseeb ($7.20) topped claiming maidens on the turf in Friday’s 3rd race and Beer Stien ($5.80) was a popular winner over $10,000 claimers in the nightcap, also on the turf.

The Preakness 5k Has Reached the Starting Gate


(Baltimore, Md.) April 20, 2010--- The Maryland Jockey Club and sports marketing and event management company Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. (CSE) announced today the creation of the Preakness 5k to benefit the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. For the first time on May 8, 2010 at 10 a.m., Marylanders and others alike will be able to run on the historic Pimlico course.

"The Preakness 5K kicks-off our inaugural partnership with Komen for the Cure, which we will celebrate at The People’s Pink Party on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday, May 14,” said Maryland Jockey Club President Tom Chuckas."We are honored to be working with the folks at Corrigan Sports, who run a first class operation and are respected as preeminent race organizers in Baltimore. For the first time ever, race participants will actually circle the world famous dirt track at Pimlico, which will welcome the finest three-year old thoroughbreds the following week at the 135th Preakness Stakes. BALTIMORE BOB MOTORS TO VICTORY IN HENRY CLARK STAKES


BALTIMORE, MD. 4-17-10---Robert Gerczak & Kaygar Stable’s Baltimore Bob delivered one for the hunch players in this afternoon’s feature at Pimlico Race Course, the $70,000 Henry S. Clark Stakes. Today is opening day at the historic Baltimore track and the aptly named Baltimore Bob was both the program and post time favorite.

A crowd of 9,191 turned out under cool conditions to enjoy the afternoon at Pimlico, which will feature live racing through Saturday, May 22. The signature race of the stand is the 135th Preakness® Stakes, the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, which is four weeks from today, Saturday, May 15.

BALTIMORE BOB HEADLINES HENRY CLARK STAKES


BALTIMORE, 04-16-10---It has to be synchronicity, the experience of two events that are casually unrelated occurring together in a meaningful manner. Pimlico Race Course kicks off the marquee meeting of the Maryland racing year at the historic Baltimore track on Saturday. The favorite in the Saturday feature is Baltimore Bob.

Nine runners will race a mile on the turf in $70,000 Henry Clark Stakes. Baltimore Bob (8-5) wintered in Louisiana and returns after posting a number of strong grass efforts this winter. The son of Malibu Moon raced on Pimlico’s turf last year, finishing sixth in the Clark and eighth in the Grade II Dixie Stakes on the Preakness undercard. His winter campaign included a third place finish the Grade III Fair Grounds Handicap in mid-February.

PIMLICO SPRING MEETING OPENS SATURDAY AFTERNOON


BALTIMORE, 04-14-10---Live racing in Maryland shifts to historic Pimlico Race Course Saturday, April 17 for the spring meeting. The headline event of the six-week stand is the 135th running of the $1 million Preakness® Stakes (Grade I), the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, on May 15. The marquee meet of the Maryland racing season will feature 18 stakes races for purses of $2,435,000. Preakness weekend features 15 stakes races for more than $2.2 million.

The Friday, May 14 card features seven stakes races, six for fillies and mares. Pimlico has partnered with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, to raise funds to aid awareness and research on Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan Day. In addition to the 86th running of the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, the day will feature an historic pari-mutuel race showcasing legendary retired female riders as well as the second annual $50,000 Pimlico Jockey Challenge, where eight of the na­tion’s top jockeys compete in four races with points award­ed based upon their finish.

Pimlico Partners With Susan G. Komen for the Cure On Black-Eyed Susan Day


BALTIMORE, March 31, 2010---Pimlico Race Course and Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, announced today a partnership to raise funds to aid awareness and research to take place on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday, May 14, 2010. Pimlico has pledged to raise a minimum of $100,000 for Komen for the Cure. Fifty percent of the funds raised will go to the Komen Maryland Affiliate to use for community outreach programs in Maryland and 50% will be used for life-saving breast cancer research.

In addition to the 86th running of the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, the day will feature an historic pari-mutuel race showcasing legendary retired female riders as well as the second annual $50,000 Pimlico Jockey Challenge, where eight of the na­tion’s top jockeys compete in four races with points award­ed based upon their finish.
