Northpoint Costas Shows the Way In Deputed Testamony Starter


BALTIMORE, 05-15-10 – Trainer Dale Capuano saddled two runners for Saturday’s $25,000 Deputed Testamony Starter Handicap at Pimlico Race Course. They finished one-two with Rob Ry Farm & Jane Marie Slysz’s Northpoint Costas edging Midnight Communion by two lengths

Northpoint Costas broke alertly and took the lead in the 1-1/16th mile test for runners who have started for a claiming price of $7,500 or less in 2009-2010. He kept that position the rest of the way, stopping the timer at 1:46.44. Midnight Communion, overlooked in the betting at 14-1, stalked his stablemate in fourth and then slipped through on the rail at the top of the lane to gain the place. Money for Love finished third.

Comedero Rolls In Chick Lang Stakes


BALTIMORE, 05-15-1 – Peter Redekop B.C. Ltd.’s Comedero sped to the lead, resisted pace pressure from Quiet Invader and powered away to victory in the $100,000 Chick Lang Stakes at Pimlico. The Grade 2 stakes honors the memory of the former Pimlico executive who passed away earlier in the year.

Comedero, a 3-year-old gelded son of Posse, carried Robby Albarado to a victory by 3 ¾ lengths in a sparkling 1:10.16 for six furlongs over the fast main track. Latigo Shore rallied to finish second ahead of Quiet Invader, who faded to third after pressing the pace.

Acting Happy Wins Black-Eyed Susan Stakes


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10. – Jay Em Ess Stable’s Acting Happy made huge strides forward at Pimlico Friday, capturing her stakes debut in the $175,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, the centerpiece of a 13-race program dedicated to raising awareness and finding a cure for breast cancer.

Pimlico Race Course management pledged to raise a minimum of $100,000 for Komen for the Cure, the world’s largest breast cancer organization. Fifty percent of the funds raised will go to the Komen Maryland Affiliate to use for community outreach programs in the state and the other half will be used for life-saving breast cancer research.

Joharmony Triumphs In Hilltop Stakes


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Gary L. Chervenell’s Joharmony swept to victory in the finale of Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan program, the $70,000 Hilltop Stakes, contested at 1-1/16 miles over the turf at Pimlico Race Course.

Javier Castellano rode the daughter of Johar for trainer Leigh Delacour. He kept the 3-year-old filly racing comfortably in third behind two battling speed horses, Smart Seattle and Potosina. When asked to go, Joharmony swept past the top two and galloped out to victory, winning by 4-1/2 lengths in 1:44.17.

Lights Off Annie Slips Clear In Skipat Stakes


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Repole Stable’s Lights Off Annie took the short way home Friday at Pimlico Race Course with a ground-saving, front-running victory in the $70,000 Skipat Stakes.

Six older fillies and mares went to post in the six-furlong Skipat and Lights Off Annie left the gate as the even-money favorite. Rajiv Maragh was aboard the winner, who was clocked in a swift 1:10.33 for the distance while winning by 5-1/2 lengths. Streetscape finished second and Beware of the Bop was third.

Vindy City Captures Ms. Pink Warrior Preakness Stakes


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Marchfore Thoroughbreds’ Vindy City out-stepped four other 3-year-old fillies to take the $70,000 Ms. Pink Warrior Preakness Stakes Friday at Pimlico Race Course.

Away from the starting gate in fourth under jockey Kendrick Carmouche, the daughter of Vindication took the overland route, moving three wide into the stretch to catch and put away Argent Affair, the frontrunner. Vindy City had enough in the tank to hold safe fast-closing Imanheiress to win by a length.

JOCSON PREVAILS IN LADY LEGENDS FOR THE CURE


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10– Gwen Jocson won 763 races in a 10-year riding career that ended in 1999, but none of them felt as good as No. 764.

Jocson, 43, took the lead at the top of the stretch aboard Honor in Peace and held off a late rally from Chapel of Love, ridden by former Maryland-based Andrea Seefeldt Knight to win the Lady Legends for the Cure race on Friday at Pimlico Race Course.

Central City Holds On To Win Jim McKay Turf Sprint


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Preston Stable LLC’s Central City held on to score a narrow victory in the $70,000 Jim McKay Turf Sprint Friday at Pimlico Race Course.

Jockey Julien Leparoux quickly sent the 4-year-old son of City Place to force the pace but just as quickly inherited the lead. The speedy duo held fast to the rail the rest of the way and lasted to win by a diminishing neck over Sacred Journey, who was ridden by Ramon Dominguez. Heros Reward and jockey Javier Castellano finished third.

Jocson, 43, took the lead at the top of the stretch aboard Honor in Peace and held off a late rally from Chapel of Love, ridden by former Maryland-based Andrea Seefeldt Knight to win the Lady Legends for the Cure race on Friday at Pimlico Race Course.

Starfish Bay Survives Duel In The Very One Stakes.


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Gainesway Stable’s Starfish Bay set a pressured pace before holding off a determined late charge by Suzzona to capture the $70,000 The Very One Stakes, contested over the Pimlico turf course.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, who will saddle Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver for Saturday’s 135th Preakness Stakes at Old Hilltop, the 4-5 favorite completed five furlongs in 56.56 seconds under John Velazquez.

With Purpose Romps In Kattegat’s Pride Starter Handicap


BALTIMORE, 05-14-10 – Peter Kazamias’ With Purpose rallied three wide around the far turn and came home a driving winner in the $25,000 Kattegat’s Pride Starter Handicap, the first of seven added-money races on Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan program at Pimlico.

Eibar Coa brought the 4-year-old daughter of Rock Slide back to the winner’s circle after completing the 1-1/16th -mile distance in 1:47.42 over the fast main track. With Purpose finished a length clear of Swear Allegiance, who was another half-length ahead of Frock’s Valley Girl. The race was restricted to 3-year-olds-and-up who had started for a claiming price of $7,500 or less in 2009-2010. With Purpose has now won two of three starter allowance races this year.

Pimlico Today-Black-Eyed Susan Tops May 14 Card


BALTIMORE, 05-10-10---Two fillies who have hooked up before top the field for the 86th running of the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, the headliner on a 13-race program Friday at Pimlico Race Course.

The card also features six additional stakes races, the second annual jockey challenge and a six-furlong event entitled Legend's For The Cure, an eight-starter field restricted to retired female jockeys.
