COMMA TO THE TOP WIRES FIELD IN BIG BEAR HANDICAP
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2012)—As promised by trainer Peter Miller, Comma to the Top and Corey Nakatani went straight to the lead in Sunday’s featured $65,000, one-mile Big Bear Handicap at Santa Anita, and the 4-year-old Florida-bred gelding never relinquished command, winning by a half-length while getting the distance in 1:35.98.
“The plan was to go to the lead,” said Nakatani, who also celebrated his 42nd birthday on Sunday. “He’s got speed and that’s what he likes best. I was a little concerned about his fitness today at this distance, but he was ready.”

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2012)—Although it looked a bit hopeless a furlong from home, Garrett Gomez and Broken Dreams persevered and managed to collar pacesetter Kindle close home to successfully defend their title by a half-length in Saturday’s Grade III Senator Ken Maddy Stakes going 6 ½ furlongs on turf at Santa Anita.
Kindle, who shot to the lead at the top of the hillside course and set blistering fractions of 20.97, 42.53 and 1:05.30, was five lengths clear of Broken Dreams when crossing the dirt at the top of the lane.

LITTLE EMILY STEALS AWAY ON LEAD TO TAKE MODESTO PURSE
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2012)—Little Emily, with David Flores aboard, altered tactics and went straight to the lead and never looked back at 5-1, taking Friday’s featured $53,000 Modesto Purse at Santa Anita by a half-length, getting 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:47.33.
Although Flores had taken her off the pace in the one mile turf Swingtime Stakes on Oct. 6, he decided a change was in order in the Modesto.

ALWAYS A CHANCE TAKES MORRO BAY PURSE
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2012)—Always a Chance left no doubt as to who was best in Thursday’s nine-horse Morro Bay Purse, taking the $28,000 starter allowance by 4 ¼ lengths as the 9-5 favorite and providing leading rider Joe Talamo with his third win on the day at Santa Anita.
A 3-year-old California-bred filly by Redatorre, Always a Chance had been idle since running a close third at the same distance and condition on Aug. 22 at Del Mar, came from off the pace under Talamo, getting the one mile on turf in 1:35.09, while sitting mid-pack behind fractions of 22.80, 46.22, 1:10.75 and 1:23.11.

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2012)—Glen Hill Farm’s homebred Broken Dreams will defend her title against eight other fillies and mares in Saturday’s Grade III, $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes for fillies and mares at about 6 ½ furlongs down Santa Anita’s hillside turf course.
Trained by Tom Proctor, the 6-year-old Florida-bred mare comes off a last place finish going 1 1/16 miles on turf in the Grade II Yellow Ribbon Handicap at Del Mar Sept. 3.
