Rainbow 6 Carryover Rises to More Than $650,000
Saint Pete Takes Feature

The Lead: Two horses in the 10th race were eligible to break the 10-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot for $734,496. Midnight Q (No. 3) and Urquia (No. 7) were covered by bettors holding unique tickets, but Starlight Dreamer (No. 6) was victorious, resulting in a $656,215.96 carryover for Friday's program.

The Rainbow 6 is paid out when there is only one unique ticket with all six winners on the last six races. Bettors with all six winners received a payoff of $13,046.69.

Saint Pete Takes Feature: Under a ground-saving ride by Elvis Trujillo, Saint Pete ($9.40) registered a 1 1/4-length victory in the featured ninth race, a $54,500 optional claiming allowance contested at five-furlongs on turf. The 4-year-old son of Put It Back settled a few lengths off a hotly contested pace set by The Chill Zone, pressed by Drunken Love and stalked to the outside by Starship Wildcat around the turn. Trujillo asked the Eddie Plesa Jr.-trained Florida-bred colt for some run on the turn, and he responded with an explosive stretch run inside the tiring The Chill Zone to outrun Starship Wildcat for the winner's share of the purse. Starship Wildcat held second over The Chill Zone by 1 1/2 lengths.
Saint Pete ran the five furlong distance in 54.66 seconds for the Trilogy Stable.

Who's Hot: Trujillo rode both ends of the late daily double, following up his win aboard Saint Pete with a late-running victory on Starlight Dreamer ($6.60) in the 10th. Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez, who rode two winners Wednesday, had two more Thursday. Velazquez rode Why Katherine ($7.20) to victory in the first and Western High ($6) to win the fourth. Paco Lopez also doubled, scoring aboard El Oh El ($8.80) in the third and Midnite Silver ($10.80) in the seventh.
