August 6, 2013, Saratoga Springs, New York—On Monday, August 12, The Jockey Club and the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, New York Division, will celebrate the life and good works of Hall of Fame Jockey, Edgar Prado at the Eighth Annual Chaplaincy Breakfast at the Gideon Putnam Resort in Saratoga Springs, New York
The Breakfast is an annual fund-raiser for the Chaplaincy (RTCANY), an organization that works to enhance the lives of backstretch workers by meeting their spiritual, emotional and physical needs. In New York, backstretch workers are those whose daily work nurtures the race horses who grace the stages at the three NYRA tracks: Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga. Without the diligent care given by backstretch employees, horse racing could not function. The Race Track Chaplaincy in turn creates a nurturing environment for these hard-working horsemen and horsewomen.
This year, the Breakfast will honor Hall of Fame Jockey, Edgar Prado and celebrate his good works on behalf of the backstretch employees, and his selfless efforts during and following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Prado long has been known for going far outside his own sphere to aid and comfort others—truly he is a Hero of the Turf, a treasured member of the horse racing community.
The event will include a scrumptious breakfast at the renowned Gideon Putnam Resort; a boutique sale of Everything Equestrian and the Chaplain's Wish List.
The Breakfast, shopping and honoring event commence at 9:30AM on Monday, the 12th. Tickets are $75. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please contact Nancy Kelly, The Jockey Club, at (212) 226-0609. Thank you.
