VICTOR ESPINOZA, BAJAN, WINNER: “It was a great trip, a lot of fun actually. She set up the way I wanted. She’s amazing when she runs on the dirt. The last couple of times, when she ran on synthetic, she was a little bit down. She really loves to run on the dirt. Later on, she might stretch out. I think she’s improving right now. I’ll have to keep riding her a little bit all the way to the wire so that I teach her for the future, so hopefully we can go long. She’s a young filly now. We’ll go race by race and wherever they decide to run her will be the right choice.”
SIMON CALLAGHAN, BAJAN, WINNER: “I think she definitely prefers this surface here at Santa Anita (her previous three races have been on synthetic). She kind of got away with it at Del Mar, but coming here, it’s much more to her liking. They went quick and Victor (Espinoza) had a perfect trip. She’s a nice filly and she picked them up well.”
Asked what might be next: “There are quite a few different options. I’ll have a chat with Aron (part owner Aron Wellman) and we’ll kind of think everything over.”
ARON WELLMAN, OWNER, BAJAN: “We haven’t thought about Breeders’ Cup at all to be honest but the way she won in here makes me think that two turns isn’t totally out of the question. We were focused on this race and getting her back in form. Now that we won this maybe we can start to think about that next step but I’m not going to rush into any decisions at this point. We’ll wait and just have to see what happens.”
NOTES: The winning owners are Aron Wellman (Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners) of Del Mar and Ron and Jerry Frankel of Dallas.
