Statement from Dr. Barry Schumer, Keeneland Medical Director, on jockey Joseph Rocco Jr., whose horse, Thermal Cat, broke down during the 1st race at Keeneland on Friday:

“There was no loss of consciousness. Joe was awake and alert and moving his extremities. He was complaining of neck and back pain, and was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for further observation.”

As a new protocol as part of the Jockey Health Information System, a DVD of the race accident was sent along with Rocco to the UK Medical Center.
