LEXINGTON, KY (October 25, 2012) – Adele Dilschneider’s homebred Unlatch pulled away from Grand Arch in deep stretch to win the featured $52,000 Machmer Hall Purse for 3-year-olds and up by 1¼ lengths before a Thursday afternoon crowd of 10,891 at Keeneland.
Trained by Al Stall Jr. and ridden by Brian Hernandez, Unlatch covered the mile on a firm turf course in 1:37.19.
A 3-year-old gelded son of Horse Chestnut (SAf) out of the Unbridled mare Detach, Unlatch improved his record to 3-2-1-0 and boosted his earnings to $73,400 with Thursday’s $31,200 check.
Unlatch returned mutuels of $27.20, $10.20 and $7.60. Grand Arch, ridden by Elvis Trujillo, returned $6.20 and $4.20 and finished 2¾ lengths in front of favored Set the Sail, who paid $3 to show under Julien Leparoux.
