RAFAEL BEJARANO, LADY TEN, WINNER: “This filly is very nice to ride, and easy to ride, too. She likes to be close to the lead so I was a little worried in the beginning. She broke good from the gate but I knew there would be a lot of speed so I tried to make sure to give her help from the gate so she could find a position in the race.
“When I got my position at the first turn I just tried to hold her a little bit then let her run when we hit the top of the stretch. She was easy to ride and I think you can do anything you want with this filly. I was waiting for Garrett’s (Gomez) horse late because I knew his filly would be the only one running at the end. When I came to the top of the stretch I let my filly go and tried to get the jump, but at the same time, I tried to save a little bit for the end. It ended up perfect for my filly.”

GARRETT GOMEZ, CUSTOMER BASE, SECOND: “I just couldn’t get to the winner in time. If I would have had just a little bit more distance between me and the wire I think I could have got her in another couple jumps. I came from post eleven, tried to save as much ground as I could, then I got down inside there and my horse did everything absolutely perfect. I waited and waited then weaved through some traffic, and when I turned for home and swung out she went after the leader but I just ran out of time. I did think I was going to catch the leader when I first got out because I thought my filly would quicken really hard. She tried to, but it was so late in the race that she couldn’t quite get on her feet and get going. She ran really well and I’m proud of her effort.”

BRICE BLANC, CHARM THE MAKER, THIRD: “She broke a step slow and I was a little farther back than I was hoping for, but she relaxed nice and I had a really good trip all the way through. Everything opened up at the top of the lane and she came running for me. It was a very good effort.”

JIM BARNES, ASSISTANT TO BOB BAFFERT, LADY TEN, WINNER: “I talked to Raffy (Bejarano). We don’t give too many instructions, but Bob wasn’t here and we kind of looked at the Form. There wasn’t a lot of speed in the race and she wants to be placed forwardly. I told Raffy to get her up there in a comfortable spot and give her a chance to win, and he did.”
