A roan/gray daughter of Exchange Rate, Rosie Red was purchased for $50,000 at the OBS April 2-year-old sales and remains eligible for the ‘a other than’ condition because she ran for the optional $75,000 claiming tag and no takers Friday.
Jockey Elvis Trujillo was aboard Rosie Red as she scored by 1 ½ lengths over Alpha Delta Stable’s 8-to-5 favorite Devil’s Cave in the field of 10 3-year-old fillies with Westbury Stable’s Believe in Charlie another three-quarters of a length back in third. Rosie Red paid $25 for $2 to win and was timed in 56:98 over the ‘firm’ course.
The same owner-trainer team was in the winners’ circle on New Year’s Day to greet 3-year-old Itsmyluckyday after $100,000 Gulfstream Park Derby two days after Plesa saddled Live Oak Plantation’s 6-year-old mare Successful Song to score in the $100,000 Ocala Stakes on Dec. 30. The latter makes her final career appearance in next Saturday’s $300,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff before being bred in the spring.
Who’s Hot: Ten races won by 10 different jockeys and 10 different trainers marked another ‘spread the wealth’ card at Gulfstream. Leading owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey got two trips to the winners’ circle in the ‘Late Double’ with Steal the Dance scoring in the ninth and Amen Kitten in the 10th, the first trained by Mike Maker and the last by Wesley Ward.
Rainbow 6 Carryover: $159,771.17.
