ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2008)—The Oak Tree Racing Association has selected Jerry and Ann Moss as top owners for the 2008 Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting, which concluded on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Spearheaded by the undefeated filly Zenyatta’s wins in the Gr. I Yellow Ribbon Stakes on Sept. 27, and her devastating triumph in the Gr. I Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic on Oct. 24, the Mosses were selected by the Oak Tree Board of Directors for recognition.
“Coupled with her two wins at the meet, their home-bred Tiago ran a terrific third in the $5 million Classic. The Mosses are the exemplification of what sporting owners should be in this game. Additionally, as a commissioner on the Racing Board, Jerry has served our sport with distinction and their participation here at Oak Tree has helped to provide our fans with many, many thrills over the years. They are most-deserving of this honor,” he added.
Chillingworth also noted that effective next year, an “Owner of the Meet” award will be voted on by the media, which also determines jockey, trainer, and various horse honors by category, on an annual basis.
The 2009 Oak Tree meeting will mark the 41st year the Oak Tree Racing Association has operated at Santa Anita Park.
Santa Anita’s winter/spring meeting will get underway on Dec. 26.
